Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Sunday, May 24th.

Find his preview and best bets for the day below.

Horse Racing Tips: Sunday, May 24th

Sandown Race 5 - (Market)

The jumps are the feature of the day but we are going to zone in on a BM84 in the middle of the card, (3) Declares War is a 4YO gelding form the in-form Matt Cumani yard. It looks a competitive race but I am focusing on his wet track form, 2 wins and a placing from 4 starts on rain-affected going. He was last seen in the Warnambool Cup, after getting back he lost ground on the turn and although he wasn’t making a lot of ground, he ran into dead-ends and never got a crack. Two back at Sandown he ran on well but just peaked late on the soft here at Sandown. Willow sticks with the ride, it has been a year almost to the day since his last win.

(3) Declares War

$3.50

Muswellbrook Race 1 - (Market)

(1) Highbury will start favourite here, always happy to take on any horse with C Reith aboard that is taking out the most percentage in the market. He will find this easier than his two Wyong maiden runs this prep but really has had his chances. Beaten 7 lengths behind a smart winner then sat up on the speed to miss a placing, I expect that some of the big players will want to take him on. (9) Mopitts has not placed at 5 career starts, not exactly great stats, I like the set-up he gets. He was 1100m-1400m second-up last start and hit the line well at Taree, after being near last in the run he ran on hard to get within 3 lengths at the finish. She maps well and should settle closer. Look for her closing late, double figure odds will be on offer, play each-way.

(9) Mopitts E/W

$9.00

Ballarat Synthetic Race 4 - (Market)

(8) Rock’n’rollrock doesn’t win out of turn and doesn’t have a great overall record but I do like the way that he hit the line last start. He gets a huge jockey change with Craig Newitt replacing Madison Lloyd, he maps well and there seems like a genuine tempo should be set. Last time at Wangaratta in a similar 0-58 grade race to this, he ran on well to just miss the placings and only be beaten just over a length. The start prior he was well beaten in a race where the tempo didn’t suit but he did seem to handle the synthetic track. It's an open race and at the double figure odds, looks a good each-wayy chance.

(8) Rock'n'rollrock E/W

$9.50

Ballarat Synthetic Race 7 - (Market)

(2) Celerite Regem finally cracked it for his first win out of maiden grade last time at career start 24, he really deserved it after two cracking runs leading into it. Two back at Mornington he sat up on the speed and stuck on well to pace only beaten half a length with a huge gap to third. He then went to Horsham on the heavy track and after sitting close to the speed again, was stuck three-wide early making a run and kept going in the straight for a dominant win. The runner-up from that race came out a weak ago and bolted in at this grade so the form should stack up well enough. He has had a couple of runs on the synthetic and showed speed, he has to carry the big weight but if he lands on the bunny, go again in the run as he will be very hard to run down.

(2) Celerite Regem

$2.70
