Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Friday, July 17th.
Solid day of horse racing coming up this Sunday, the 19th of July headlined by a few interesting meets at Pakenham, Scone and Hobart. Luke Krahe is back today with his best bets for the day here.
Horse Racing Tips: Sunday July 19th
Pakenham Synthetic Race 7 - (Market)
The first of the flat races for the day presents an opportunity via the Mick Price 2YO (8) Cumberbatch taking on the older horses. He debuted at Kilmore back in February, he didn’t show much back against the babies and was sent straight to the paddock. He resumed here on the synthetic as he is today, after jumping well enough he was stuck three-wide no cover just off the speed. He was four-wide into the straight and chased hard, only to go down in the last stride or two. It was a big effort after the wide run, the tongue tie goes on signaling there may have even been an issue last time. He looked to handle the track surface well and as long as he doesn’t have to face the breeze, should be too strong.
Wodonga Race 1 - (Market)
(8) Diamond Efforts is a daughter of Helmet from the Shea Eden yard, she has had six trips to the races and none were better than last start when placing for the first time at Bendigo. In what was a harder maiden than this, she was out to the mile for the first time and got back in the run. She was held-up at the top of the straight when the runs came, eased to the middle of the track and was a real eye-catcher getting into second beaten a length and a half. She draws well and although she will be giving them a start, she looks to have more upside than most of these.

Narrandera Race 2 - (Market)
If you purely looked at the numerical form of (12) Thrills Of Thrills, I t would be hard to get enthused into backing her, especially at the top of the market. She is unplaced at all five career starts, the first four of those were with the Mick Price yard. She was off the track for more than 9 months before resuming for the Mitch Beer stable, her first run back was in a harder maiden at Wagga on the heavy track. She stuck on well after a soft run on the rails (may not have been the best going) and looks suited with that run under her belt and dropping a stack in class. She will probably just need cover behind the speed and if so, will finish too well. Respect must be shown for (1) The Gun Son on debut, he gets the blinkers on but has not shown much at the trials. Happy to be against him at the price until I see what he can do.
(12) Thrills of Thrills
$2.35
Narrandera Cup Race 7 - (Market)
The feature of the day is the Narrandera Cup over a mile. (3) Upper House has won three of his last six runs, although he has been up for a while he still is racing well. He was in town on a heavy track three starts back, back in the field and wide in the run, he never looked liked winning but was only beaten 3 lengths in a much harder race. He then went to Moruya for the Narooma Cup and was well backed into starting favourite. He was mid-field on the rails and although he was fair in the run, he did have his chance. He should appreciate coming back on to a good track and this certainly looks easier, look for him over the top late.
