Australian Horse Racing Tips Monday August 10th

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Monday, August 10th.

There's just two meetings in Australia to begin the new week, with eight races at both Pakenham Synthetic and Port Macquarie. Luke Krahe has picked out four selections throughout the day in his preview below!

Horse Racing Tips: Monday, August 10th

Pakenham Synthetic Race 1 - (Market)

(8) Aqaareb is going to start in the red, that doesn’t mean she doesn’t represent good value. The daughter of Not A Single Doubt debuted in SA back in February, she was well backed and got home fairly into third and was sent straight to the paddock. She resumed at Geelong, again got back in the run and made good ground in a race that has produced two subsequent winners. She was having her first go on the synthetic track last time, easy in the betting to start at $6.50. She settled closer, angled three-wide into the straight before running on well, just peaking late. She looked to handle the track well and there was a big gap back to third. She stays at the mile, draws beautifully in what looks a much weaker field, she should be winning. The main reason I see her as value at the odds-on quote is 7YO mare and 22-start maiden, (6) Mycharliegirl has come up second favourite. Her last six tries to get win number one have been on this surface, just can’t have her anywhere near the current quote, she has to be aa drifter in the betting. I would be needing double figures to even entertain the thought of backing her.

(8) Aqaareb

$1.60

Pakenham Synthetic Race 3 - (Market)

(2) Perennial is a former Kiwi now with the Peter Moody yard. She placed at three of four when racing across the ditch, she has been off the scene for almost 6 months. She had a recent jump-out here on the grass track, she began well and was in a line of 4 before accelerating nicely to win the trial late. A replay of that jump-out can be found here. She is having her first go on the synthetic but is trained here so no doubt will have been on it before, drawn well, any money for her will increase the confidence. (5) Sigrid looks the main danger, she was ok at her first start on the surface a couple of weeks ago, she over-raced and didn’t have much room late. I think she will be giving our tip a start, happy to be against her.

(2) Perennial

$3.30

Port Macquarie Race 2 - (Market)

(7) The Borough has been very consitent and admittedly has been up for a long time. Two starts back at Tamworth he bolted in by more than 6 lengths to win his maiden, he then went to Scone at hils first go out of that grade and after again settling back, ran on hard and got the bob of the head in a ding-dong battle. He again was good through the line at Tamworth at his latest run, with a month since his last start he should be fresh for this. There are no stars, he handles the wet well and we know how this track at PMaq can play well to the back markers that get wide. He will sit back and come with one run, this is a very weak 58 grade middle distance affair.

(7) The Borough

$2.70

Port Macqaurie Race 4 - (Market)

(4) Just Cosmos has found it hard to get her first win, she is still a maiden after 13 starts, placing at 5 of them. She resumed at Grafton over the carnival in a harder maiden than this, loomed up to win but just looked to run out of condition. She had 11 days between runs, went north to Ballina and after a good run in transit behind the speed, looked a little flat second-up but stuck on well enough to run third. She comes back in trip and has the wide draw, I like her drawn out there as they will have no option but to push on early and try to lead. Obviously, I would prefer that she did not have to sit in the breeze, but I think she will be strong enough at the back-end if she is forced to race in that position.

(4) Just Cosmos

$2.70
