Welcome to our harness racing preview and betting tips for Gloucester Park on Tuesday, July 16th.
Trent Orwin has cast his eye over the meeting and offered his four best bets of the night below.
2YO fillies will do battle in the opening race on the card and Shannon Suvaljko will be looking to lead with (1) Vallani Magic. She should have enough speed to hold up from the inside barrier and (10) Soho Whisper will be looking for a soft run. I believe Soho Whisper is the class filly of the race and she can sprint home sharply with some luck for trainer-driver Kim Prentice. Winning her first two starts, Soho Whisper has since run fifth in a Group 1 event, where she was held up for a run. Expect her to go close if she sees daylight. (4) Magical Mysty and (3) Altas Angel are also in the mix here.
A Level 8 race over the longer distance of 2536m and (1) Brookies Jet will be looking to lead throughout for trainer Matthew Scott and driver Chris Voak. A couple of stats aren’t in his favour and they are that he hasn’t won on the track from 76 attempts and has won once over a longer distance from 16 starts. His past two starts have been fine and his run four starts ago from a good barrier suggest he is the leading contender tonight. (9) Kohli has the best form in the race and can make his presence felt despite the car park draw. (10) Free To Air will get the run that he likes on the pegs and (5) Mister Rollins is flying at the moment.
The early speed battle could be interesting with (2) Funky Ole Medina and (3) Sameplace Sametime in barriers one and two respectively. (8) Twilight Saga can show good speed also and it remains to be seen whether they use her gate speed or come with one run late. Sameplace Sametime is the horse that interests me because she will run a big race if she finds the lead. Five starts ago she was runner up in a Group 3 race won by The War Nurse. Since then she has been around the mark each time. (7) Nowuseemesmile should be running home well and Twilight Saga is almost completely hit and miss. (5) Delightful Shadow and (6) Live Like A Royal are capable of winning too.
