Welcome to our harness racing preview and betting tips for racing at Gloucester Park this Friday, August 30th.
Our resident expert Trent Orwin has delivered his preview below, so continue reading to find out what he's keen to back tonight.
A number of chances in the second event which will take place over the 2536m. (1) Baptism Of Fire is the most likely leader, unless they decide to relinquish. His last win came when leading and I suspect they will be keen to hold up against this opposition. He has been runner up in two of his past four starts, chasing home Carter Micheal and (10) Pierre Whitby. The main dangers to Baptism Of Fire are likely to be Pierre Whitby who begins from the inside of the second row and has beaten Baptism Of Fire recently, and (2) Rock Me Over who has been consistent without winning. Each-way claims to (4) Twentynine Twelve, (7) Ace Bromac and (9) Hot Fraternity.
A FFA contest over 1730m where the start will be all guns blazing for (1) Our Corelli and (5) Thereugo. Most will expect Thereugo to cross but I think Our Corelli could potentially hold him out. (8) King Of Swing was able to do that earlier in the year and Our Corelli would be as quick as King Of Swing. The first quarter could be decisive in this race. If they run close to 27-flat, then in-form pacer (9) Handsandwheels looms as a huge threat. With versatility on his side, I am going to tip Handsandwheels despite barrier nine over the short distance. He has won his last three starts in fast time and the race may be run to suit.
A very competitive standing start race with a handful of chances. The barrier draw ensures it will be a great contest and we have several leading candidates who are probably better chances when they don’t lead; (3) Twilight Saga and (4) Atmospherical haven’t enjoyed leading recently with both suffering defeats when leading the field. (9) Cut Above will begin off a 10m handicap but she has run well from that position before. Three starts ago she was third behind Lincs Tiger and Cracka Star when beginning off this mark. She has been a model of consistency this season with 22 starts returning eight wins, five seconds and four thirds. She should be running home strongly. (1) Rum Delight and (2) Our Bobbydazzler can be around the mark from good draws.
The start will be crucial to the chances of my selection (2) Carter Micheal. Based on current form, you would expect (1) Im Batman to hand up the lead in this class. Trainer Phil Duggan has Dylan Egerton-Green driving which means he may want an aggressive drive. Carter Micheal hasn’t missed a place in his last five starts and that includes a pair of wins over Baptism Of Fire and Major Pocket. Carter Micheal was second behind Mister Ardee last start when beating home (7) Speed Man. Expect Carter Micheal to go close. (5) Walkinshaw and Speed Man are strong contenders. Place value may lie with (3) Tuas Delight.
