Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing at Happy Valley on Wednesday, May 22nd.
Tim is keen to bet and he's lined up the following selections for tonight's racing!
HAPPY VALLEY BEST BETS
RACE 1
(10) Bonito was a last-start winner over course and distance and prior to that went down by a neck. He's found his form and only goes up 1.5kg in the weights. With the good draw, he should be very competitive once again. (2) Wicker gets a class drop to Class 5 for the first time in his career and the booking of Purton is a serious eye-catcher. It wouldn't be the first time this season a Richard Gibson horse has dropped in class with Purton going on with success. He finished his race off rather well last start so he's the value at $9.00.
Race 3
(10) Win Win gives Purton another good chance of riding a winner. Purton rode him to victory in a Class 4 over 1400m at Sha Tin two starts ago before he stepped up in class last start with Regan Bayliss in the saddle. He had a pretty rotten time of things throughout the race and the run can be forgiven. Purton goes on tonight, riding the lightest he can go at 120lbs (+2lbs over the horse's allocated weight). It's always a big hint when he rides this light. Drawn well in barrier 2 and think he's a good price at $5.50.
Race 6
(7) Golden Dash returned from a bleed with a good first up run. He ran the second-fastest final sectional of the race and was one of only four horses to break 23 seconds for that sectional. Hong Kong Bet came out of that race and won last week so it's a reasonable form line for another midweek race. It's a very competitive race this one, but he's drawn well and can go close on that first up run.
Race 7
Another good chance for Purton here at the top of the weights, with (1) Telecom Puma for trainer Jimmy Ting. Purton has had six rides for Jimmy Ting this season, resulting in three winners, so they form a pretty lethal combo. The horse has had three runs back from a very long spell (13 months) and has continued to improve with every start. He's back up to 1200m tonight after dropping back to 1000m last time out, and Purton jumps on for the first time. Looks ready to win.
Race 8
Really good race for a Wednesday night meeting, with a few talented types going around. Purton teams up with Jimmy Ting again here, with (6) Yee Cheong Baby, who saluted on his Hong Kong debut over 1000m. The stable said they expected him to win that night, which gives me the impression they've got a decent opinion of the horse. Purton sticks with him and he draws the inside barrier, which is premium over 1200m at the Valley. He's capable of winning again despite the rise in class.
