Welcome to our preview and horse racing betting tips for racing at Happy Valley in Hong Kong on Wednesday, May 1st.
We have an eight-race card and overall, it looks a very competitive night of racing. There's four races on the card we're keen to bet into.
HAPPY VALLEY RACING TIPS
RACE 3
Decent betting race with a few you could back. (9) Precious Sweetie has had two runs this season and both have been good, including a last-start victory over this track and distance. He won that by just under 2L and he won despite sitting wide throughout the race. Despite rising 4.5kg in the weights tonight, he can win again. (1) Jolly Convergence was beaten 2.8L by Precious Sweetie last start but he was blocked from the 400m-200m mark and ran home well thereafter. He was a winner at the track and distance two starts ago and he gets a 4.5kg weight swing on Precious Sweetie tonight. Drawn well in barrier 3, he looks a big chance at $6.50. (11) Lamarosa draws barrier 1 which is the most successful barrier at the 1200m at Happy Valley - he comes into this second up for Paul O'Sullivan, whose stable is going along nicely. He's a value chance at double figure odds. I'll be backing Precious Sweetie with savers on the other two.
(9) Precious Sweetie
$3.40
RACE 4
I thought (4) Happy Warrior was quite clearly the best bet of the night for John Moore and Zac Purton. He's finished in the top two at five of his past six starts. Since Purton took the reigns on him, he's won one and finished 2nd in the other two, beaten a neck and a half-length. I thought he might even be a bit shorter than the $2.70 currently on offer, but there is definitely a case to be made that he's a little bit of a cat. (1) Acclaimed Light looks hardest to beat. His past two efforts have been very good and he's started from barrier 12 on both occasions. Tonight he's better drawn in barrier 7 and the stable is going well.
RACE 6
Competitive race but (1) Green Luck looks well placed. He's had en eight-week break since he last ran. He's only had the four career starts at Happy Valley, for one win and one second, which were both at this distance. Zac Purton has had three rides on this horse for a win and two 2nds. He drops back to Class 3 tonight, is well drawn in barrier 2 and looks a strong winning chance. (3) Racing Luck looks a legitimate danger but has drawn all the way out in barrier 12. Just one of the 58 runners starting from barrier 12 at this track and distance has won this season. (6) Last Kingdom might be the one to test.
RACE 7
Again, another competitive race but (2) Perfect Glory looks well placed first up from a spell. He's undefeated so far when first up, including a victory at this track and distance last preparation. Barrier 1 is a big advantage over this track and distance, with a 23% winning strike rate. The horse looked good winning a trial up at Conghua last week and with even luck he should be pretty competitive despite carrying 132lbs.
