GWS vs Fremantle Prediction & Betting Tips: AFL 2026 Round 17
Another Loss, More Injury Carnage
The Giants fell to 6-9 and sit 14th on the ladder, with their injuries piling up again in their 14 point loss to Hawthorn. Brent Daniels (calf), Max Gruzewski (knee) join an increasing injury list that is now up to 15, which includes Jesse Hogan, Jack Buckley, Jayden Laverde, Jake Riccardi and Tom Green. With Leek Aleer being managed, the Giants are being stripped of significant key defensive posts, which is crucial given they’re coming up against Treacy, Amiss and Voss. Although they are within reach of the wildcard places, given their form and injury list it looks highly unlikely they will make the top ten.
The Streak Continues
A dominant performance at home against the Suns extended Fremantle’s winning streak to 14, in what has been a historic season for the Dockers. Fremantle grinded Gold Coast into the ground last week, holding the Suns to three goals in a 51 point victory. Freo lost the contested possession battle by 14 and clearance count by 12 but were +15 for inside 50’s as their transition game was at its absolute best. The Dockers turned 12.9% of their defensive 50 chains into scores, and 44.3% of their defensive half chains resulted in an inside 50 - their second best return of the season.
Recent Head to Head History
This has been an even matchup with Fremantle just taking the ledger at 3-2 across the last five matches between these two sides. Interestingly, Fremantle have won their past two games against the Giants at Manuka Oval, so the trip to Canberra won’t have any fears for the Dockers.
Giants or Dockers? Here’s our GWS vs Fremantle Tip
Fremantle are absolutely humming, two games clear at the top of the ladder, on a 14 game winning streak, answering every challenge they’ve faced in 2026. The Dockers are incredibly well balanced, ranking 1st for fewest points conceded and 3rd for points scored. Fremantle’s turnover game will be a massive factor in this clash, ranking fourth in the competition for scores from turnover, a long way ahead of GWS.
While the Giants haven’t been winning as many games as they would like, they have been competitive in most games. GWS’ last five losses have come by under 24 points so they should be able to keep this game in Canberra. Fremantle will continue their excellent form, but it won’t be a blowout victory for the ladder leaders.

GWS vs Fremantle Prop Bet
Josh Treacy had a quiet game in the wet last week, ending an eight game streak of kicking at least one goal. Four of those eight games Treacy kicked 3+ goals, and against an undermanned Giants defence the Big Cohuna should be set for a bounce back performance.

Josh Treacy 3+ Goals: as highlighted above, Treacy should be raring to bounce back and hit the form he has shown for the majority of this season.
Clayton Oliver 25+ Disposals: Out of the limelight after a few treacherous years in Melbourne, Clayton Oliver has well and truly got back to his best in 2026. Oliver is averaging 31.7 disposals per game this season and has hit the 25+ disposals mark in every game he has played this year.
Murphy Reid 23+ Disposals: Murphy Reid has been a high impact player from the moment he came into the league, but he’s now becoming a high volume player as well. Reid is averaging 24 disposals per game this season and has hit red hot form over the last six games with 28, 27, 23, 21, 30 and 30 disposal performances.
