Anna Blinkova got the better of me in round 1 when she took out Sorana Cirstea in a final set tiebreak, however I think this is not an overly favourable match-up for her tonight against Elina Avanesyan.
Avanesyan isn’t the most powerful player on tour, however she also doesn’t produce a high unforced error rate either. I didn’t back her in any capacity in round 1 as she was coming off a retirement in her last match, but she looked strong and consistent against Lin Zhu, winning 55% of 1st serve return points and 75% of second serve return points.
I think Blinkova was saved somewhat by her first serve percentage - at 71% it was her second highest first serve percentage since the start of 2023. If she performs above average again then fair play to her, however I will be siding with Avanesyan at the moneyline.
