ATP Wimbledon Day 1 Betting Tips

Mattia Bellucci vs Ben Shelton – Approx 2am AEST

Ben Shelton is one of the rising stars of the men’s game, however I do feel as though he is still in the early stages of finding his feet on the grass surface. As fantastic as the Shelton first serve is, the American still doesn’t look completely comfortable on the surface in rallies with his decision-making being a little low percentage at times. He is 1-3 on the grass this season, with a win over Rinky Hijikata (saved all 6 break points) and losses to Jubb (faced 18 break points), Mpetshi Perricard and Duckworth. His second serve has been a liability in the losses, going at less that 46% on each occasion, and was as low as 40% against Duckworth and Mpetshi Perricard. For a player as talented as he is, I need to have seen more from him on the surface to be able to justify his price being as short as it is.

Mattia Bellucci is a fascinating prospect and a player that I feel is playing above his current ranking of 150, especially on the grass. I thought his effort against Nakashima in Surbiton to start the grass season was impressive, and the Italian overcame a shaky Wimbledon Round 1 qualifying to reach the main draw with a 4 set win over David Goffin, which holds up as a strong win.

Shelton has a highly successful career ahead of him, however I cannot justify his odds here with his style of tennis and exposed form on the grass. Happy to take Bellucci + games and to win outright.

Also Backing: Mattia Bellucci to win (0.75 units at $3.40 Bet365)

Mattia Bellucci +3.5 games

$1.93 (1 Unit)
