As the Ascot carnival begins to wind down for another year we have one more feature day of racing over in the West. There’s a massive ten races on the card and we get to see Godolphin visitor Vilana step out and take on the locals in the Gold Rush. Alaskan God is on the back up from last week’s Northerly Stakes and will start a heavy favourite in the Towton Cup.
Plenty of sun in Perth again this week and we should expect perfect racing conditions come race day.
Billy Bestford is back once again to bring you his best bets and race previews for all the key races.
Ascot Racing Tips: Saturday December 10th
Race 5
Not too keen to get involved early in the day but happy to have a bet here in race 5. (2) Capital Flight stamped himself as an exciting sprinting prospect last prep, stringing four wins together. With the apprentice claim today he looks well placed to return to the track with another win. A recent trial was solid enough.
(1) Moi Choix is flying and ran 2nd to a pretty smart one here last week. 3rd up now I expect he is at peak fitness and probably looks the main danger to the favourite.
(9) Swim Through comes out of that same race and ran very well finishing 3rd. Was a strong winner here two back and rarely runs a poor race.
(7) Galaxy Cat looks the best value runner, coming off a good win 2nd up. Should improve into this again.
(2) Capital Flight
$3.05 (2 units)
Race 7
Really liked the first up run for (11) Casino Seventeen who was having his first start in WA. He was taking ground off a couple of smart horses late on over 1400m. Up to the mile now is ideal for him and I think he only needs to take natural improvement to be a big winning chance. Much rather have a gamble on him at the price.
No doubt (3) Alsephine will be hard to beat and looked very impressive returning to the races with a strong win over 1400m. Pike sticks for the ride here and she is building a very good record.
(4) Above The Peg was heavily backed last start but could only manage 2nd as a short priced favourite. Sets up to get a gun run just off the speed here and loves the track/trip.
(8) Megazone is absolutely flying and has found a new lease on life as a 7yo. He’s another who looks to get every favour in running.
(11) Casino Seventeen
$8.50 (0.5 unit)
Race 9
(14) Kissonallfourcheeks looked home and hosed in the Winterbottom before Paulele sprouted wings from nowhere to run her down. Off that effort alone she has to be a huge chance in a race like this, which looks easier. Up to 1400m a big positive and she is drawn for a gun run for Parnham.
(2) Vilana will have plenty of fans coming over from Sydney following an impressive win in The Hunter. Bolted in the Silver Eagle a few starts back but has to overcome a couple of setbacks. Was scratched from The Winterbottom and had a vet check earlier this week for today.
(1 Kementari seemingly loves racing over here in WA and it would not shock to see him pop up and win this race. Jamie Kah jumps aboard and he ran very well behind Private Eye and Mazu last time we saw him. His best form will win this race.
(13) Minsk Moment will have to go back from the gate but he looks a big value chance here. Was impressive winning at first start for new stable over here in Perth and will improve again. Will enjoy the dry tracks over this side of the country.
Value: (13) Minsk Moment - $34 (0.25 units)
(14) Kissonallfourcheeks
$4.80 (1.5 units)
