2026 PGA Tour: Rocket Classic Betting Tips

July 29th 2026, 2:25pm, By: Andy Rosos

Rocket Classic Betting Preview

After another profitable week, we're looking to keep the momentum rolling on the PGA TOUR. Last week we correctly landed Jackson Koivun to win the 3M Open, while over on LIV Golf we also nailed Lucas Herbert as our top selection at LIV Golf UK. With confidence high, we're hunting for another winner as the TOUR heads to Detroit for the penultimate event of the regular season.

With just one tournament remaining before the FedExCup Playoffs, every shot carries extra importance. The Rocket Classic returns to a revamped Detroit Golf Club, where players will get their first look at a significant course renovation that promises to provide a fresh challenge while maintaining the birdie opportunities the event has become known for.

Rocket Classic Betting Preview

Detroit Golf Club, Thursday 30 July - Sunday 2 August

The Field

Fresh off his maiden PGA TOUR victory, 21-year-old Jackson Koivun returns to action after holding off world No. 1 Scottie Scheffler in a thrilling finish at the 3M Open. The win catapulted the PGA TOUR University graduate to No. 70 in the FedExCup standings, putting him right on the playoff bubble with another huge opportunity awaiting this week.

Cameron Young headlines the field after another outstanding campaign that has included two victories, while defending champion Aldrich Potgieter returns looking to become the first player to successfully defend the Rocket Classic title. Wyndham Clark also arrives in excellent form following a brilliant summer stretch that included his U.S. Open triumph, while Chris Gotterup continues one of the breakout seasons of 2026 after collecting three PGA TOUR victories.

There is plenty of depth behind the headline acts, with Si Woo Kim, Russell Henley, Xander Schauffele, Akshay Bhatia, J.J. Spaun and Hideki Matsuyama all teeing it up. Schauffele and Brooks Koepka are making their tournament debuts, while Jordan Spieth also adds further star power to what is one of the strongest Rocket Classic fields to date.

The Course

Detroit Golf Club will look significantly different this year following a $16 million restoration led by architect Tyler Rae. The Donald Ross layout has been transformed into a par 70 measuring 7,328 yards, with the routing altered to feature just two par 5s and a pair of lengthy new par 4s replacing previous scoring opportunities.

The renovation focused heavily on restoring Ross' original vision. Every green has been reshaped, bunker numbers have increased from 84 to 91, and the former pond protecting the 14th green has been replaced with native grass. While the course should still reward aggressive golf, the added length and more demanding approach shots are expected to place a greater emphasis on quality ball-striking.

Although scoring should remain relatively low, players who consistently find fairways and attack with their irons are likely to separate themselves. The longer par 4s introduce a fresh challenge that could favour the TOUR's elite tee-to-green performers more than in previous editions.

Rocket Classic Best Bets

Chris Gotterup

Gotterup returns to the United States after a solid fortnight in the United Kingdom where he posted finishes of T11 and T18. Before that he claimed another PGA TOUR victory at the John Deere Classic with a brilliant closing 62, further highlighting the confidence he is playing with. His combination of power and improving all-round consistency should be perfectly suited to the renovated Detroit Golf Club, where longer holes now place even more value on elite driving.

Si Woo Kim

Few players on TOUR are playing better golf than Si Woo Kim. He arrives after career-best finishes at both the Genesis Scottish Open and The Open Championship, giving him an incredible 10 top-10 finishes this season, double his previous career high. Kim leads the PGA TOUR with 54 birdies in recent competition and shares the lead with 43 rounds in the 60s this season, making him an outstanding fit for another event where scoring opportunities should be plentiful.

Rocket Classic Value Bets

Ryan Gerard

Gerard has quietly put together one of the most consistent campaigns on TOUR thanks to the balance throughout his game. His tee-to-green numbers continue to impress, and with Detroit Golf Club now placing greater emphasis on quality ball-striking following its restoration, this shapes as an ideal setup. He also comes in fresh after a T9 finish at Royal Birkdale and looks capable of making another strong run.

Ben Kohles

Kohles continues to build momentum after narrowly missing out on victory at the John Deere Classic. Since that T3 finish, he has added a T15 at the ISCO Championship and a solo ninth at the 3M Open, continuing the excellent form he established with a Korn Ferry Tour victory earlier in the year. His accurate iron play and dependable ball-striking make him an appealing value option on a course that should reward precision as much as power.
