2023 AFL Brownlow Round 15 Overview
The last of the bye rounds are done and dusted, thankfully, with six matches in Round 15 action. With all teams now playing the same number of matches, we can once again get a clearer picture about the Brownlow betting markets.
Accroding to our Brownlow projections, Round 15 may be the round that Nick Daicos reclaims his spot on top of the Brownlow leaderboard. He was enormous in the Pies win against Adelaide, although Jordan Dawson wasn't far behind. Other contenders to poll votes in Round 15 include Christian Petracca, Lachie Neale and Noah Anderson.

The Cats kicked off the round with a hard-fought win over the Dees in slippery conditions at the Cattery. Gary Rohan KO’d Jeremy Cameron but was then the most influential player on the ground with 16 disposals, 7 marks and 3 goals. Tom Stewart (22 disposals, 9 marks), Brad Close (24 disposals) and Mitch Duncan (22 disposals, 6 marks, 8 tackles, 1 goal) were also very good. Christian Petracca was the leading ball winner on the ground with 33 disposals, 6 tackles, 10 clearances and 1 goal and should feature in the Brownlow votes.

St Kilda 8.8.56 def by Brisbane 12.12.84
Brisbane cemented their top four spot by knocking off the Saints. Harris Andrews ruled across half-back with 21 disposals and 14 marks, including nine intercepted. Lachie Neale (29 disposals, 9 clearances) and Josh Dunkley (26 disposals, 7 tackles, 1 goal) were excellent, while Eric Hipwood kicked 4 goals from his 12 disposals. Jack Sinclair was a stand out for the Saints with 36 disposals, 6 clearances and a goal.

Oh dear. The Eagles slumped to new lows as the Swans absolutely brained them. The Swans had winners everywhere so it might be hard to split the best players for the Brownlow votes. Errol Gulden (32 disposals, 7 marks, 3 goals), Isaac Heeney (22 disposals, 6 marks, 5 goals) and Chad Warner (33 disposals, 2 goals) seem the most likely. There’s just no words to even mention the Eagles.

Freo are back on track after accounting for the Bombers. Caleb Serong was best with 32 disposals, 10 clearances and a goal, with good support from Andrew Brayshaw (29 disposals, 7 marks, 8 tackles, 1 goal), Liam Henry (32 disposals, 8 marks) and Luke Jackson (17 disposals, 7 marks, 3 goals). Zach Merrett (29 disposals, 1 goal) and Nic Martin (26 disposals, 9 marks, 1 goal) were good contributors for the Bombers.

The Pies have done it again! They fought back from the brink of defeat to pinch a thrilling two-point victory over a gallant Crows team. Nick Daicos was again superb with 37 disposals, 8 clearances and a crucial goal. Brother Josh Daicos was also excellent with 33 disposals, 6 clearances and a goal, with Tom Mitchell (27 disposals, 7 tackles, 1 goal) as consistent as ever. Crows skipper Jordan Dawson played arguably the best game of his career and will probably be unlucky to miss out on the three Brownlow votes for his 35 disposals, 9 marks and 12 tackles. Taylor Walker was also the game breaker in the third quarter as he ended with 5 goals from 13 disposals and 7 marks.

Gold Coast 14.17.101 def Hawthorn 5.4.34
The Gold Coast did what they had to do as their finals hopes are still alive following a strong win over the Hawks. Brayden Fiorini (35 disposals, 7 marks, 7 clearances), Noah Anderson (28 disposals, 7 marks, 6 clearances, 2 goals) and Ben Ainsworth (27 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal) were best for the Suns. Blake Hardwick (38 disposals, 8 marks) was kept busy in defence while Will Day (29 disposals, 9 marks) tried hard.

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.
