AFL Sydney vs Geelong Betting Tips

Sydney will square off against Geelong in the fifth and final scheduled game of Super Saturday in Round 7 of the AFL season! As always, PuntingInDanger has you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the clash below.

AFL Sydney vs Geelong Betting Tips

SCG, Saturday 1st May 7.25pm (AEST)

The Cats and Swans both have a 4-2 record to start the season and the winner of this cash will lock up a top four spot at rounds end. Can the Swans bounce back from two straight losses?

Match Prediction

The Swans won their first four games of the season including great wins over Brisbane and Richmond but they have since been upset in their last two games on the trot, going down to the Giants by two points and the Suns by a whopping 40 points in Round 6. They now have a tough two game stretch that sees them play Geelong and Melbourne in back to back weeks. If they show the same form they showed against the Suns on the weekend, they will be 4-4 in two weeks’ time.

The Cats were shaky through the first month of the AFL season but they seem to have found their groove, particularly after the 97 point demolition job they performed on the Eagles at GMHBA Stadium on the weekend. Although their Round 3 win over the Hawks was at the MCG, it was classed as a home game for the Cats, meaning they are 4-0 at home and 0-2 on the road this year. They travel to the SCG where they have won their last three games in a row.

Jeremy Cameron made his long awaited debut for the Cats last weekend and was really impressive and Geelong could get more back from injury this week with Esava Ratugolea and Quinton Narkle both needing to pass fitness tests to play.  They are still without the likes of Patrick Dangerfield, Shaun Higging, Mark O’Connor and Jake Kolodjashnij, but will have a strong squad to select from this week.

Things aren’t as good on the injury front at Sydney. Lance Franklin remains on the sidelines with a knee issue while George Hewett, Tom Hickey, Dane Rampe and Sam Reid will also miss this week. Tom McCartin and Nick Blakey will need to pass fitness tests to play.

Struggling to see how the Cats lose this one after the showing they put up against the Eagles on the weekend. Granted, they are a completely different side down at GMHBA, but everything is trending in their favour in the lead up to this one. They are in great touch while the Swans seem to have fallen off a cliff with back to back losses. Made the mistake of tipping the Cats to win by 1-39 last week but I’m just taking them to cover a smallish line this week.

Swans Prop

I expect the ball to be in the Geelong forward line for a lot of the game on Saturday night. Jake Lloyd had his first 30+ disposal game of the season on the weekend in the first game that the Swans had lost convincingly all year. Back him to do so again this week with plenty of kick-outs and possessions across half back.

Geelong Prop

In my AFL forward rankings, there are only two players on the top tier at the moment. Toby Greene and Jeremy Cameron. The Geelong forward looked ominous in his debut in the blue and white hoops last week, booting 3.2 in the monster win. Theres not many forwards in the league that these new rules suit better than Cameron. He can do it leading up to the ball or running back towards goal as good as anyone. I think he gets plenty of opportunity against the Swans on Saturday night and boots another three, at least.
