2021 AFL Round 4: St Kilda vs West Coast Preview & Betting Tips

April 9th 2021, 7:24pm, By: PuntingInDanger

AFL Saints vs Eagles Betting Tips

Super Saturday in the AFL continues from 4.35pm as St Kilda host West Coast from Marvel Stadium. It seems like an eternity since these two teams have faced off in Melbourne, and the Saints will be desperate to defend their home ground after a demoralising loss last week.

Check out our full preview and betting tips for the clash from Punting In Danger below and remember to head to our AFL Betting Tips page for full previews for every game in Round 4 and beyond.

AFL St Kilda vs West Coast Betting Tips

Marvel Stadium, Saturday 4.35pm (AEST)

It’s been a tumultuous season for the Saints so far after predictions were positive for them in the pre-season. Can they bounce back at Marvel Stadium or will the Eagles train roll on in Round 4?

Match Prediction

The Saints travelled to Sydney and captured a spirited win against GWS on the road in Round 1. Many thought that it would be the first sign of a really improved season for the Saints, but since then they have been absolutely deplorable. They were defeated comfortably by the Demons in Round 2 before suffering arguably the most embarrassing defeat of any team this season when they were smashed by the Bombers to the tune of 75 points.

The Eagles have been really impressive in season 2021 despite losing one of their three games. Their gallant loss to the Bulldogs at Marvel Stadium has been sandwiched by two impressive wins over the Suns and Port Adelaide so far this season. The most recent win want without its setbacks though, as skipper Luke Shuey went down with an injury.

The Saints will be buoyed by the return of Jimmy Webster and more importantly ruckman Rowan Marshall this week. Their lack of a recognised ruckman over the last few weeks has really hurt them and they’ll be looking forward to getting not only Marshall back in the side but also Paddy Ryder in a few weeks.

The axe was also swung at the Saints after their dismal performance last week. Shaun McKernan, Mason Wood and Ben Long were all dropped in favour of Marshall, Webster and youngster Jack Bytel.

It’s pretty tough for me to like anything about the Saints at the moment after what they served up last week. However, often when teams put up this type of display they come out with a bit more desire in the following week. Some omissions will have no doubt put a bit of fear into the Saints players heads and I think they will be more competitive this week. West Coast should win, but I really like the 1-39 margin at Marvel Stadium.

Saints Prop

Jack Steele has been the shining light for the Saints through their up and down season so far. If it wasn’t for him, the Saints would have lost by 100+ easily last week as he racked up 35 touches and a goal. The week before he also tried to carry the Saints over the line against Melbourne with 24 touches and 3 goals. Has been great at finding the goals this season, back him to kick another on Saturday.

Eagles Prop

Andrew Gaff had an incredibly slow start to the season by his lofty stadnards, racking up just 16 touches in each of his first two games. He bounced back in Round 3 against the Power though, accumulating 36 touches in the win. He has been massive against the Saints in recent history, racking up 33, 30, 29, 30, 36, 36, 36 and 33 disposals in his last 8 games against them. Back him for 30+ on Saturday.
