NBA Playoffs Betting Tips: Wednesday May 4th
Milwaukee Bucks at Boston Celtics
TD Garden, 9am AEST
The Bucks punched the Celtics in the mouth early in Game 1 of this series and the favourites were unable to recover as the defending champions ran away 101-89 winners. Giannis Antetokounmpo was at his dominant best with 24/13/12, while Jayson Tatum for the Celtics was a miserable 6/18 from the field on his way to just 21 points.
Recent Defensive Player of the Year winner Marcus Smart had his shoulder popped out in the second quarter of Game 1, but was able to play out the second half in what was very promising signs for the Celtics. He’s currently listed as a toss-up to play in Game 2, but you’d think a man as tough as him is going to suit up no matter what.
Game 1 certainly didn’t go the way of the punters as the underdogs reigned supreme, however, you’d expect the home crowd to be even more rowdy in Game 2 in hope of lifted their beloved Celtics. However, I’m steering clear of the H2H and handicap markets here and am taking on the unders in the total points market which looks far too high. The Celtics are the #1 defensive team in the league and I expect them to show us just why on Wednesday.
Golden State Warriors at Memphis Grizzlies
FedExForum, 11:30am AEST
The Grizzlies cherished homecourt advantage in the first half of Game 1 when they took a six-point lead into half time, however they were outplayed in the second half, particularly down the stretch as the Warriors secured a one-point win on the road. Klay Thompson was huge in the final minutes despite missing a pair of free throws, while Ja Morant tried his best with a 34/9/10 stat line.
Klay Thompson picked up a little knock in Game 1 but is still listed as likely to play, although Andre Igoudala still remains out for the Warriors. In Grizzlies injury news, Steven Adams remains sidelined through injury and Most Improved candidate Desmond Bane is listed as a toss-up to take to the court in Game 2.
The Grizzlies didn’t do a lot wrong in Game 1, in fact you could make a case that they were desperately unlucky to lose. In my opinion, they didn’t secure the second-best record in the NBA this season via a fluke and deserve to be favourites on their home court in an attempt to tie the series. I’m keen to be on their side on this occasion.
