NBA Betting Tips: Thursday, 4th of November
Boston Celtics at Orlando Magic
Amway Center, 10am AEDT
The Celtics have had a horrible start to their campaign despite having what looks like a really soft draw on paper. They’ve played just one game against teams that made the playoffs last season and have lost five of their seven games to date, including each of their last three. Pressure is certainly building on the Celtics new coaching staff to improve on such a poor start.
The Magic were always going to be facing an uphill battle this season with such a young and inexperienced roster to work with. They started off the season just as you’d expected with a couple of blowout losses, but have been far more competitive of late and come into this game off their best performance of the season, which was an 18-point win against the Timberwolves.
The Celtics have burned us badly a couple of times already this season to the point where we’ve lost a bit of faith in their ability. They’ve put in three really poor performances in a row against sub-par ball clubs and now face a young Magic team who will be confident after pulling off a big win. All things considered, taking the home team to cover the generous spread looks to be the play here.
Chicago Bulls at Philadelphia 76ers
Wells Fargo Center, 10am AEDT
The Bulls have been the talk of the league so far this season due to winning six of their first seven games, which ties them with the Heat and the Jazz for best record in the NBA. Their most recent win over the Celtics was arguably their best to date, when coming from 14 points behind at three-quarter time to win by 14.
The 76ers battled well to defeat the Trail Blazers last start despite being without a number of their key starts, including superstar Joel Embiid. Prized recruit Andre Drummond was a monster in Embiid’s absence, helping his team record their fifth win from seven games, which is a good return considering their tumultuous off-season.
The undermanned 76ers have been brave through the first couple of weeks of the season, but will face one of their toughest tests to date when hosting the in-form Bulls. We just love what the visitors have dished up in every game they’ve played this campaign and expect them to prove very hard to beat once again on Thursday.
Charlotte Hornets at Golden State Warriors
Chase Center, 1pm AEDT
The Hornets continue to be fantastic box office and have enjoyed a relatively successful start to the season with wins in five of their first eight games. They have shown glimpses of regression in the last week however, especially in their last time out loss to the Cavaliers where they were heavily favoured.
The Warriors were a team expected to bounce back into title contention this season and if their early form is any sign of things to come, then they’ll certainly be thereabouts at the business end. They’ve won five of their six games to date and their only loss came in overtime against the Grizzlies last week.
The Hornets come into this tough road trip off their worst performance of the season, which isn’t a great sign when you consider the form of the Warriors. Steph Curry is on an absolute tear to start and the season and with no recognisable perimeter lockdown on the Hornets roster, we expect them to have a very difficult time on Thursday.
