For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote predictor system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can then form a 'range' for each player (i.e. a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.

Round 14 Brownlow Medal Votes
There were a couple of outstanding individual performances in Round 14 that helped will their teams to victory. Patrick Dangerfield and Christian Petracca were immense, while Robbie Gray rolled back the clock in one of the performances of the round. The Bombers came from six goals down to upset the Hawks in dramatic fashion and keep their finals hopes alive. Andrew McGrath (32 disposals, 10 clearances) and Zach Merrett (36 disposals, 6 tackles) ran rampant in the middle, but the big story was the impact of Joe Daniher. Playing his first game in 467 days after a controversial off-season after a failed trade to Sydney, Daniher built into the game nicely to end with 14 disposals, 10 marks and 3 goals in an excellent performance. James Worpel (23 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 goal) and Jack Scrimshaw (22 disposals, 9 marks) were best for the Hawks.

Match of the round saw the Tigers get a boost to their top four chances as they knocked off the Eagles. Trent Cotchin (26 disposals, 7 clearances) was superb, with Bachar Houli (23 disposals, 7 marks) and Noah Balta (16 disposals, 9 marks) working well down back. For the Eagles, Andrew Gaff (32 disposals, 6 tackles), Luke Shuey (27 dispoals, 6 tackles, 6 clearances) and Tim Kelly (26 disposals, 6 clearances, 1 goal) won plenty of ball but they couldn’t get the result. A tricky game for Brownlow votes.

Western Bulldogs 9.7.61 def by Geelong 10.12.72
The Cats were asleep in the first quarter but recovered from a 36-point deficit to get over the line against the Dogs. Patrick Dangerfield lifted the Cats and carried them on his shoulders all the way to the winning post with a brilliant game that incorporated 32 disposals (19 contested), 10 score involvements, 5 marks, 6 clearances and an unwavering appetite for the ball. Tom Stewart (22 disposals, 9 marks) controlled half-back while Cam Guthrie (21 disposals, 5 tackles) was also effective. For the Dogs, Lachie Hunter was excellent early and finished with 27 disposals, 8 marks and a goal.

The Power did it pretty comfortably against the Swans with Robbie Gray rolling back the clock to be best on ground. Gray lit it up in the first quarter and ended with 27 disposals, 6 tackles, 5 clearances and 2 goals. Ollie Wines (22 disposals, 7 tackles, 6 clearances, 1 goal) and Tom Rockliff (24 disposals, 7 clearances) won plenty of ball, while Charlie Dixon was in beast mode up forward with 4 goals from 13 disposals and 5 marks. Josh Kennedy was tireless for the Swans with 28 disposals.

The Giants did it easily against the Dockers to get them one step closer to finals action. Lachie Whitfield was typically prolific with 31 disposals and 9 marks and will be in the Brownlow votes once again. Tim Taranto (25 disposals, 6 marks, 1 goal) was good while Jake Riccardi (4 goals, 12 disposals, 9 marks) and Jeremy Cameron (4 goals, 18 disposals, 8 marks) did the job up forward. David Mundy (20 disposals, 8 tackles, 5 clearances, 2 goals) and Andrew Brayshaw (24 disposals, 8 tackles) were best for Freo.

The Dees snatched onto victory to put the Saints’ hopes for finals under threat. Christian Petracca willed his team to victory with 15 disposals and 4 goals, including the match winner in a low-scoring game. His effort was matched at the other end by Steven May who played his best game for his new side with 22 disposals and 9 marks while holding Max King quiet. Jack Steele will be other player in the votes with another excellent game comprising of 26 disposals, 5 marks, 8 clearances and a goal.

The Pies won an important clash against the Blues to keep them on track for a finals berth. Jamie Elliott played his best game in the midfield with 19 disposals, 8 tackles and 4 clearances in an influential performance. Taylor Adams lifted in the second half to end with 23 disposals, 5 tackles and 7 clearances while Jack Crisp cleaned up at half back with 25 disposals and 12 marks. Sam Walsh (22 disposals, 1 goal) and Ed Curnow (22 disposals, 9 tackles, 1 goal) were best for the Blues.

A strong win for the Suns and a pretty horrible effort by the Roos who are limping to the end of the 2020 season. The Suns has plenty of contributors with Ben Ainsworth (23 disposals, 11 marks, 1 goal), Noah Anderson (23 disposals, 5 clearances, 1 goal), Touk Miller (23 disposals) and Hugh Greenwood (23 disposals, 6 tackles, 7 clearances) all busy in the middle of the ground. Luke McDonald played a lone hand for the Roos with 27 disposals.
