MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 22nd May
Philadelphia Phillies at Chicago Cubs (9.05am AEST)
Fantastic matchup here between two teams who lead their respective divisions in the National League. The Phillies have started the season with a 27-19 record, winning six of their last 10 games and will have Zach Eflin on the mound Wednesday. Eflin has a 5-4 record with a 2.89 ERA through the early parts of the season.
The Cubs have a 27-17 record and lead the National League Central division by 1.5 games. They too, have won six of their last 10 games and will have Jose Quintana on the mound Wednesday. Quintana will be making his 9th start for the year and has a team high 50 strikeouts through just over 50 innings in 2019.
Tough game to call between two of the better sides in the National League. The Cubs have been fantastic at home throughout the season so far, maintaining a 15-6 record at Wrigley Field, the best home record in the National League. The Cubs also seem to have the advantage in the batting department, boasting more runs and a better average than the Phillies. Back the Cubs to defend home field here.
Boston Red Sox at Toronto Blue Jays (9.05am AEST)
The Red Sox have been on an absolute tear through the American League over the last few weeks. They have won seven of their last 10 games and climbed from last to third in the AL East. They can put more distance between themselves and division rivals, the Blue Jays, with a win in Toronto on Wednesday. Lefty Eduardo Rodriguez will be on the mound for the Red Sox Wednesday and boasts a 4-2 record with a 4.89 ERA through the season so far.
The Blue Jays have just a 19-28 record on the season so far and have been particularly bad at home, winning just 8 of their 22 games at Rogers Centre. They’ll have their ace in Marcus Stroman on the mound on Wednesday, who has an impressive 2.95 ERA on the season but he hasn’t been able to get run support from his offence and has just a 1-6 record.
The Red Sox monstered the Blue Jays in the first game of the series on Tuesday, racking up a 12-2 win with David Price on the mound. Can’t see the Blue Jays putting up much more of a fight offensively on Wednesday.
Chicago White Sox at Houston Astros (10.10am AEST)
The Astros have the best record in all of baseball and are coming off an impressive 2-1 series win over the Boston Red Sox. They also won the first game of their four game series against the White Sox at home 3-0 on Tuesday. They have won nine of their last 10 games and have Justin Verlander on the mound Wednesday, who has a 7-1 record with a 2.38 ERA.
The White Sox will once again run out Dylan Covey to start in place of the injured Carlos Rodon. Covey has an 0-2 record through three starts this season and has just six total strikeouts with a 4.41 ERA. Had a respectable outing against the Blue Jays in his last tilt but he’ll be going up a different beast on Wednesday.
Can’t see this game going any other way than an Astros whitewash. They have one of the best pitchers in all of baseball on the mound, at home, against a career 5.97 ERA pitcher. They also boast one of the best offences in all of baseball with a league leading .279 team batting average.
