2-1 in MLB betting tips last Wednesday to start our season off on a winning note! We’ll look to continue that form as we take a look at some of the key games in Major League Baseball this Wednesday, the 15th of May and give our betting tips below.
MLB Betting Tips Wednesday 15th May
Tampa Bay Rays at Miami Marlins (9.05am AEST)
The Rays currently lead the AL East division with a fantastic 24-15 record and have a +57 run difference throughout the first few months of play. They’ll have Charlie Morton on the mound when they travel to Miami on Wednesday to take on the Marlins. Morton has been fantastic this season, racking up a 3-0 record and a 2.64 ERA. Has a good record against the Marlins as well (6-4 over his career).
The Marlins currently sit at the very bottom of the NL East division with a 10-29 record. They have won just two of their last 10 games but the one shining light of their season has been their fifth starter, Caleb Smith, who will be on the mound on Wednesday. Smith was fantastic in his last start, striking out 11 in a no decision. Smith’s last 31 innings have come at an ERA of just 1.42.
While Smith has been amazing, he hasn’t got the run support from his Marlins teammates, and going up against Morton here makes us think that the run support won’t come Wednesday either. Back the Rays to get this one done on the road.
Colorado Rockies at Boston Red Sox (9.05am AEST)
After an extremely slow start to the season for the defending World Series Champions, the Boston Red Sox have been on an absolute tear of late. They have won eight of their last 10 games and surged from last in the AL East to now sit just three games behind the Tampa Bay Rays. They’ll have ace Chris Sale on the mound on Wednesday, who has struggled in 2019 but is coming off his best start of the season against Baltimore last week.
The Rockies face the tough proposition of remaining competitive in one of the harder divisions in baseball, the NL West. They currently sit 6.5 games back of the division leaders, the LA Dodgers, with a 19-21 record. They’ll have lefty Kyle Freeland on the mound on Wednesday, who is just 2-5 this season with a massive 5.84 ERA.
The Red Sox start as heavy favourites here which is understandable given the home field advantage and the pitching matchup. The Red Sox have won 11 of their last 13 games with those 11 wins coming at an average margin of 6.2 runs. Their offence has been on fire, scoring at least eight runs in six of their last eight games. Back them to get a comfortable win at home.
San Diego Padres at Los Angeles Dodgers (12.10pm AEST)
As they so often have over the past five years, the Los Angeles Dodgers have started the regular season on fire. They currently have the best record in baseball at 27-16 and have their ace, Clayton Kershaw, on the mount on Wednesday. Kershaw might be on the wrong side of 30 now, but he has still managed to rack up a 2-0 start to the season with an impressive 3.31 ERA.
It’s a fantastic pitching matchup on offer on Wednesday as Kershaw goes up against Chris Paddack, who boasts one of the best ERA’s in all of baseball at just 1.55. He has a 3-1 record through 7 starts and has allowed just 8 total runs through 40.2 innings.
Tough game to call here with two quality pitchers on the mound. We are leaning towards the travelling team here, Paddack has been unbelievable to start the season and they represent great value on the road against the Dodgers.
