2018 Super Rugby Round 18 Preview & Betting Tips

July 5th 2018, 3:27pm, By: matta91

Round 18 of the 2018 Super Rugby season starts this Friday and we have you covered with our Super Rugby betting tips for every match.

Super Rugby Round 18 Betting Tips

Crusaders vs Highlanders (Friday, Jul 6 5:35pm AEST)

The Crusaders are set to take on the Highlanders at AMI Stadium in their New Zealand rivalry matchup on Friday. The home side hasn’t tasted defeat at home in 2 seasons so they will start as warm favourites. They also have added extra motivation after going down to the Highlanders earlier this season 25-17. The Highlanders defence was poor last week as they went down 42-0 at half-time against the Chiefs. The Crusaders have arguably a better attack and that spells trouble for the away side. The Crusaders are 4-2 ATS when playing the Highlanders at home and I can see that continuing.

Reds vs Rebels (Friday, Jul 6 7:45pm AEST)

A big test awaits the Reds at Suncorp Stadium with the Rebels in town. The Reds are aiming to avoid a 5th straight defeat and another trashing. They were beaten 39-16 last week versus the Blues and conceded 52 in their last Australian matchup. The Rebels played hard against the Waratahs in a close 5 point loss last round. With a 7-7 record, they really need to win this clash. In the head to head, the Rebels trashed them 45-19 in February and won the last clash in QLD. So with more to play for, the Rebels should win this by over 4.5 points.

Chiefs vs Brumbies (Saturday, Jul 7 3:15pm AEST)

The Brumbies are starting to heat up after a 3rd straight win last week. But they will face a tough test against the Chiefs. The home side is coming off a 45-22 thrashing of the Highlanders and have a 4-2 record at home this year. So the Brumbies will need to be at their best in defence. Which they were last week in as they kept the Hurricanes to 12 points. Despite an 0-4 record against the Chiefs in NZ, they have covered the line in 3 of the 4 losses. The Chiefs are 4-9 ATS at home coming off a win and 2-5 when playing the Brumbies at night. So ACT at the line!

Hurricanes vs Blues (Saturday, Jul 7 5:35pm AEST)

The Hurricanes head to Auckland in Round 18 when they face the Blues at Westpac Stadium. The Hurricanes are aiming to avoid a 3rd straight defeat and their attack has gone quiet. In those 3 losses, they’ve scored an average of 13 points. However, they’re a much better side on their home turf. They rank 4th in Super Rugby for points scored at home and 3rd for points allowed. The Blues finally won a home game but it was only against the equally bad Reds. They’re 0-6 against the Hurricanes and lost 36-15 in May against them. However, at the moment I’m not confident in the Hurricanes covering the large line on offer. So this is a game that you should steer clear of.

TIP: No Bet

Waratahs vs Sunwolves (Saturday, Jul 7 7:45pm AEST)

In this matchup, the 8-5 Waratahs and 3-11 Sunwolves face off at Allianz Stadium on Saturday. For the Waratahs, they just beat the Rebels last week by 5 points. Which gave their finals position a huge boost. So they’ll be looking to continue their dominance over the Sunwolves. In the 2 meetings since 2016, NSW has scored 50 and 57 points in 2 big wins. The Sunwolves recorded another upset as they beat the Bulls by 5 points last week. However, they have shown poor defence in Australian matchups recently. They lost 41-31 to the Brumbies in Canberra and 40-13 against the Rebels in Melbourne. The Waratahs are arguably the best Australian team and they’re hard to stop when they get on a roll in attack. So I think the 16.5 point line is a good chance of getting up.

Bulls vs Jaguares (Saturday, Jul 7 11:05pm AEST)

Two contrasting teams will take the field at Loftus Versfeld on Saturday. The Bulls are looking to avoid a 4th straight loss and the Jaguares are searching for an 8th straight win. Since the Crusaders torched them at home 40-14 in April, the Argentinian side has not lost a game. So a win in South Africa would most likely seal a spot in the finals. The Bulls are having real problems stopping sides in attack, which showed in the last meeting between the sides. In Argentina, the Jaguares put up 54 points in a 30 point win. The bookies have the Bulls as favourites but the Jaguares are great value considering their form. They’ve also won 4 of 6 on the road this season and won’t fear the trip to South Africa.

Stormers vs Sharks (Sunday, Jul 8 1:15am AEST)

The round ends with a South African rivalry matchup between the Stormers and Sharks at Newlands. The Sharks have the wood over them with 4 straight wins and they come off a nice 31-24 win over the Lions. Meanwhile, the home side is 0-4 in their last 4 games and they have lost their last 2 at home. But with their season near the end, there should be some motivation to knock off the Sharks. The Sharks are just 1-6 on the road this season and the Stormers have a good record at home. So this matchup looks likely to finish in a close margin. 3 of the last 4 games for the Sharks have finished under a 7 point margin. The same can be said for the Stormers.
