2018 Super Rugby Round 13 Preview & Betting Tips

May 9th 2018, 7:15pm, By: matta91

Round 13 of the 2018 Super Rugby season starts this Friday and we have you covered with our Super Rugby betting tips for every match. It's been a tough year for Super Rugby betting tips so far but we'll look to bounce back this weekend as we preview Round 13.

Super Rugby Round 13 Betting Tips

Blues vs Hurricanes (Friday, May 11 5:35pm AEST)

The New Zealand rivalry between the Blues and Hurricanes continues this Friday at Eden Park. The Hurricanes are starting to look good after a 8th straight win last week. So they'll look to continue their good form on the road against the Blues. Last week, the Hurricanes were victorious against the Lions at Westpac Stadium in a 28-19 result. They average just 18.22 points allowed in defence (2nd) and rank 2nd for points scored as well. Meanwhile for the home side, they have a 2-3 record in their last 5 matches. So this will be a test against the more favoured Hurricanes. They outlasted the Waratahs last week with a 3 point win. But the Blues are really struggling this season with a 3-7 record. They are scoring just 24.9 points per match, which ranks 11th in Super Rugby. They also concede 30.9 points per match. So it is not looking good for this matchup against the Hurricanes. In the head to head, the Hurricanes have a 5-0 record against them so I’m getting on them at the line. Their defence will stop the Blues and they’ll have many opportunities against this average Blues defence.

Sunwolves vs Reds (Saturday, May 12 1:05pm AEST)

A big test awaits the Sunwolves at Prince Chichibu Memorial Stadium with the Reds in town. The Sunwolves are aiming to avoid a 9th straight defeat. They are scoring just 19.67 points per match and have a 0-9 record on the season. They've also conceded 41.11 points per match and that ranks 15th in Super Rugby. Meanwhile for the Reds, they have a 1-4 record in their last 5 matches. But they did secure a vital win over the Lions before the bye. They also beat the Japanese team in 2016, 35-25. They can’t afford to drop this match, especially with a 4-5 record. So they should be able to beat the Sunwolves by around 10-20 points.

Crusaders vs Waratahs (Saturday, May 12 3:15pm AEST)

The Crusaders are looking strong once again after a 6th straight win. So they should be confident of beating the Waratahs. The NZ side rank 1st for points allowed (17 per match) and 3rd for points scored. Meanwhile for the away side, they have a 3-2 record in their last 5 matches. The Waratahs have a respectable 5-3 win-loss record in 2018. They are scoring 29.89 points per match but last week’s loss against the Blues was pretty disappointing. In New Zealand, they’re 0-4 against the Crusaders. But the line looks pretty high for the Crusaders. NSW is 8-4 against the line as an away team and they have finished within 19 points of them in the last 2 meetings. The Crusaders are also just 3-7 ATS this season and the Waratahs are 6-3 ATS. So I can see the Crusaders winning but not in a huge blowout.

Highlanders vs Lions (Saturday, May 12 5:35pm AEST)

Round 13 continues with the 6-3 Highlanders up against the 6-5 Lions at Forsyth Barr Stadium. The Highlanders are coming off a disappointing 12-38 loss against the Sharks last game, which ended a 3 match winning streak. Meanwhile for the Lions, they battled hard against the Hurricanes last week but went down by 9 points. The Lions are scoring points at a huge rate and winning by an average of 15.5 points in 2018. They have a 6-5 record this season and will be looking for another win on Saturday. The two sides haven't played against each other since 2016 and the head to head is tied at 3-3. However, the Highlanders are 3-1 against them at home and in 2018, they’re 4-0 in home matches. So they should be able to close out the Lions by a 1-12 margin.

Brumbies vs Rebels (Saturday, May 12 7:45pm AEST)

On Saturday night, the Brumbies are playing host to the Rebels at GIO Stadium. The Brumbies will be looking to avoid a 3rd straight loss and the Rebels have lost 5 in a row. During the Brumbies’ last 5 games, they have been poor overall with a 1-4 record. They are struggling this season with a 3-6 record. They score just 20.33 points per match, which ranks 13th in Super Rugby. They also concede 25.22 points per match. But they will be favoured in the betting with home field advantage and should take advantage of the Rebels very average defence. They got smashed by the Crusaders last week and have moved into 3rd last for points allowed. They did beat the Brumbies 33-10 earlier this season in Melbourne. But that was a few months ago and I think the bye will help the Brumbies. They show a lot better defensive work compared to the Rebels. So I’m getting on the Brumbies at the line.

Stormers vs Chiefs (Saturday, May 12 11:05pm AEST)

DHL Newlands plays host to the 5-6 Stormers and 6-3 Chiefs in Super Rugby action on Saturday. Last time out, the Stormers won against the Bulls at DHL Newlands by a score of 29-17. The Chiefs only just lost to the Jaguares at FMG Stadium, Waikato. So this should be a close contest. The last 4 meetings have been played in South Africa and the Chiefs are 3-1 in those matches. But last season, each side won by an average of 7 points. The betting markets show that either team could win this. So the tri-bet is worth a play in this matchup.

Bulls vs Sharks (Sunday, May 13 1:15am AEST)

On Sunday, the Bulls are playing host to their foe the Sharks at Loftus Versfeld. Last week, the Bulls were well beaten by the Stormers at DHL Newlands by 12 points. The Sharks were very impressive last match as they trashed the Highlanders 38-12. But the Bulls beat them 40-10 in Durban this season and they have dominated them since 2010 with a 10-3-1 record. The Sharks are just 1-4 in away matches this season and 6-16 when they’re the underdog. This season, the Bulls have a 3-2 record at home and they’re 15-6 coming off a loss when playing at home. So the safe bet in this contest is the Bulls to win.
