2018 Brownlow Vote Predictions Round 9

May 21st 2018, 4:48pm, By: Brownlow Bandit

One again Before You Bet is back with our rolling Brownlow Medal Tracker for the 2018 season. We’ll be providing comments for every game of the season, along with our vote predictions to help with your projections for the 2018 AFL season.

Our Brownlow predictions are one of the most popular aspects of the site with punters able to scoop huge profits using the information found in these pages. You’ll be able to stay up to date with our current Top 20 2018 Brownlow Medal leaderboardwhile there will be links to every single round-by-round voting posted there.

For those who need a refresher on how our Brownlow vote system works, we assign 6 votes per game so that our total votes are the same as the official 3-2-1 system, however we break up those votes as we see fit across potentially more than three players. Some games are really tough to call which way the votes will go, so a better predictive model is to split performances and assign half points to each player where there is doubt. So for example if two players dominate and it's too hard to split their performance, they are given 2.5 votes each, with the remaining 1 vote given to another player(s). This will give us a predictive total closer to their true total, rather than guessing. We can form a 'range' for each player (ie a min and max we think players can poll) with the thinking behind this that the variations from the half votes will even out over the long term.

If you intend on using our Brownlow votes to bet why not consider one of the best Australian sports betting sites which offer some great incentives for new customers. Also be sure to check out our Twitter page at @Before_You_Bet and continue returning to the site for our AFL tips, and of course, check out our 2018 Brownlow Round 9 Vote Predictions below!

2018 Brownlow Medal Predicted Votes – Round 9

Adelaide 9.9.63 def Western Bulldogs 2.14.26

The Crows got the win in horrible conditions against the Dogs, with Eddie Betts providing some class in the wet with 4 goals from his 15 touches. Cameron Ellis-Yolman (27 disposals), Rory Laird (28 disposals), Bryce Gibbs (26 disposals, 8 tackles) and Hugh Greenwood (20 disposals, 11 tackles) provided the grunt work in the midfield with several Crows on the injury bench. Jack Macrae was easily the Dogs best with 36 disposals and 13 tackles in another huge effort.

Eddie Betts – 3
Jack Macrae – 2
Cameron Ellis-Yolman – 0.5
Rory Laird – 0.5

North Melbourne 17.10.112 def GWS 9.15.69

The Roos continued their good form with a big win over an injury-depleted GWS. Ben Brown was the spark with 5 goals all in the third quarter, while fellow big man Jarrad Waite kicked 4 goals from his 22 touches. Shaun Higgins was the leading ball winner with 28 possessions, while Jed Anderson picked up 26 touches and a goal. For the Giants Stephen Coniglio had 25 touches and Jacob Hopper had a good game with 24 disposals.

Jarrad Waite - 3
Ben Brown - 2
Shaun Higgins – 0.5
Jed Anderson – 0.5

Gold Coast 6.6.42 def by Port Adelaide 11.16.82

The Power again enjoyed their trip to China with a solid win with skipper Travis Boak winning the Medal for best on ground with 29 disposals, 7 clearances, 6tackles and a goal. Sam Powell-Pepper worked hard for 26 disposals, 10 tackles and 2 goals while Tom Rockliff continued his resurgence with 26 disposals, 7 tackles and a goal. Jarrod Harbrow was good for the Suns with 27 disposals and 9 tackles, as was Aaron Hall with 29 disposals, while Jarrod Witts got the best of the ruck duel with 43 hitouts, 22 disposals and a goal.

Travis Boak – 2.5
Sam Powell-Pepper – 2.5
Jarrod Witts – 0.5
Aaron Hall – 0.5

Essendon 12.12.84 def Geelong 7.8.50

The inconsistency of Essendon continued with an upset win over the Cats. Zach Merrett was back to his best with 32 disposals, while David Zaharakis (33 disposals, 8 marks) and Dyson Heppell (28 disposals, 1 goal) also got a lot of the ball. Shaun McKernan was a big presence up forward with 4 goals from 16 disposals and 11 marks, while Cale Hooker was a rock at half-back with 21 possessions and 11 marks to win the Tom Wills Medal. Joel Selwood tried hard and was the Cats best with 30 disposals, 6 tackles and a goal.

Cale Hooker – 3
Zach Merrett – 2
Shaun McKernan – 0.5
Joel Selwood – 0.5

Sydney 17.9.111 def Fremantle 7.10.52

Sydney were too strong for Freo with the backline of Jake Lloyd (41 disposals, 15 marks, 1 goal), Jarrad McVeigh (31 disposals, 6 marks) and Dean Rampe (22 disposals, 5 marks) proving too tough to penetrate. Up forward, Lance Franklin returned with a solid contribution of 19 disposals, 9 marks and 3 goals. Ed Langdon was best for Freo with 29 disposals and a goal, while Nat Fyfe had 28 disposals and a goal, but probably not enough to get among the votes.

Jake Lloyd – 3
Jarrad McVeigh – 2
Dane Rampe – 0.5
Lance Franklin – 0.5

St.Kilda 10.12.72 def by Collingwood 15.10.100

The Pies kicked clear in the second half with Jordan de Goey the match-winner with 6 goals from his 13 possessions. Steele Sidebottom was the leading ball winner with 38 disposals, while Scott Pendlebury (30 disposals, 1 goal), Jeremy Howe (30 disposals, 11 marks), Tom Phillips (30 disposals, 11 marks, 1 goal) and Jack Crisp (30 disposals, 8 marks) also got a lot of the ball. Brodie Grundy was also a force in the ruck with 23 disposals, 7 marks and 42 hitouts.

Jordan de Goey - 3
Steele Sidebottom - 2
Scott Pendlebury – 0.5
Jeremy Howe – 0.5

Carlton 7.8.50 def by Melbourne 25.9.159

After a great win last week, the Blues crashed back down to Earth with a thumping by the Dees. Jake Melksham kicked 5 goals from 21 touches, and Tom McDonald bagged 4 majors from his 20 disposals in a dominant forward line display. Nathan Jones was the typical workhorse in the middle with 31 disposals and a goal, and was supported by Angus Brayshaw who had 24 disposals and 11 tackles. Big Max Gawn won the ruck battle with 44 hitouts, 12 disposals and 2 goals to continue his excellent season. Patrick Cripps tried hard for the Blues with 31 disposals, 8 marks, 9 tackles and a goal.

Jake Melksham – 3
Tom McDonald – 1
Max Gawn – 1
Patrick Cripps - 1

Brisbane 20.9.129 def Hawthorn 11.7.73

This match will be a tricky, yet very important one when it comes to Brownlow votes. Brisbane got the win and had some standout players, but there were some big numbers from the Hawks as well. Hugh McCluggage was one of the best with 27 disposals, while Dane Beams (28 disposals, 8 marks, 2 goals) and Dayne Zorko (30 disposals, 12 tackles, 1 goal) were typically prolific. Eric Hipwood was the finisher with 4 goals from his 12 touches. It’s hard to think that Tom Mitchell might not get a vote here for his 46 disposals and a goal. He had 16 in the first quarter alone, but then was quieter for the rest of the game.

Dayne Beams – 2
Hugh McCluggage – 2
Dayne Zorko – 1
Tom Mitchell - 1

West Coast 20.10.130 def Richmond 12.11.83

The top-of-the-table clash would see big Jack Darling lead the Eagles to a thumping victory. Darling was enormous with 6 goals from 21 possessions and 15 marks for a clear three votes. Elliot Yeo (29 disposals, 6 tackles, 1 goal) and Andrew Gaff (24 disposals, 8 marks, 1 goal) were again good in the midfield, while Jeremy McGovern (14 possessions, 9 marks, 1 goal) and Shannon Hurn (20 disposals, 8 marks) were difficult to get past across half-back. Jack Riewoldt played a lone hand for the Tigers with 5 goals.

Jack Darling – 3
Elliot Yeo – 2
Jack Riewoldt – 1
