If there’s one thing that we can take away from the first ODI between Australia and South Africa on Sunday, it’s that the Proteas came to play. South Africa were dominant in the match and will look to take a 2-0 lead in the series this Friday when the tour heads to Adelaide Oval for the 2nd ODI starting from 2.20pm. We provide our betting tips for Game 2 below.
Australia vs South Africa ODI Game 2 Betting Tips
South Africa won the toss and decided to bowl in Game 1. The decision turned out to be a good one by captain Faf du Plessis as the Proteas tore through the Australian top order. Dale Steyn was back to his brilliant best and spearheaded a fast bowling attack that looked truly scary on the weekend. Young quicks Luni Ngidi and Kagiso Rabada also bowled well but arguably the pick of the lot was all-rounder Andile Phehlukwayo who took three crucial wickets as the Aussies were bowled out in the 39th over for 152.
Travis Head, Aaron Finch, D’Arcy Short, Chris Lynn and Glenn Maxwell all failed with the bat with the only resistance in the Australian lineup coming from wicket-keeper Alex Carey and bowler Nathan Coulter-Nile, who scored 33 and 34 respectively.
It took the South Africans just over 29 overs to chase down the Australians measly run total as openers Quinton de Kock and Reeze Hendricks put the win beyond doubt with a 94-run opening stand.
The South Africans will likely go into Game 2 in Adelaide unchanged, as the bowling line-up performed extremely well and the only query would have been the all-rounder position. However, Phehlukwayo performed extremely well with the ball and wasn’t required with the bat.
Kagiso Rabada was our Game 1 selection to claim the most wickets for the South Africans and although he was unable to get a single wicket, he still bowled extremely well and looked likely in both of his spells. We think he is great value once again on Friday.

Adelaide Oval is renowned as a batters paradise, which definitely suits the Australians more than the South Africans in the lead up to this match. At their best, Australia’s batting line-up is more damaging than their opponents and if one or two of them can get off the chain for a big score than 300 becomes par score.
The South African bowlers vs Australian batsman compeition should be levelled out a bit due to the batting friendly Adelaide wicket. We tipped South Africa to win game one as underdogs but we think the slight favourites in Australia have a much better chance in Adelaide.
Expect Travis Head to bounce back on his home track in Adelaide. The South Australian product already boasts two of the top 40 ODI scores in history at Adelaide Oval after a 108 off 137 balls against Pakistan in 2017 and a 96 off 107 against England last year.
