2017 Premier League Darts: Week 9 Preview & Betting Tips

March 27th 2017, 5:33pm, By: Bullseye

It’s Judgement Night in the Darts Premier League, and usually that would mean it’s do or die for those near the bottom of the standings. Unfortunately this season, the fate of Kim Huybrechts and Jelle Klaasen has already been sealed, as no matter what they do tonight, they will be relegated from the Premier League as the bottom two place finishers. Both will be disappointed to not make more of an impact this season. Klaasen showed moments of brilliance before a wrist injury has prevented him from playing at his best late in the season. Huybrechts hasn’t won a match but has been competitive in most, pulling three draws, but should’ve had a couple more points after failing to take his chances late in a couple of game. Huybrechts has also struggled late in the season as his mother has been unwell, so his mind has clearly been distracted.

Let’s see if they can pull it together to finish their seasons on a high on Week 9 of the Darts Premier League. Here’s our preview and tips for this week:

Premier League Darts Week 9 Betting Tips

Peter Wright vs Kim Huybrechts

Peter Wright confirmed himself as one of the current top players in the world with another PDC title during the week at the German Darts Championship. Wright defeated MVG in the final 6-3 to grab his second trophy of the year after his earlier UK Open triumph. Along the way, Wright was matched against Kim Huybrechts but overcame him with relative ease, conceding just two legs, and it’s hard to see the Belgian turning the tables here. Huybrechts will obviously want to end his season on a positive note, but with so much going on behind the scenes, and Wright with his confidence high, you would expect Wright to be far too strong here. There’s no value in the $1.40 for Wright to win, and even the -2.5 line handicap is only paying $1.66. Taking the -3.5 line might be a bit ambitious so I think we’ll have to sit this one out.

TIP: No Bet

Phil Taylor vs Jelle Klaasen

It’s a similar story in this match with Phil Taylor an overwhelming favourite to defeat Jelle Klaasen which makes it difficult to find much value. Taylor was in good form last week defeating Peter Wright in a 7-5 result to stay in contention with the top four. He seems to lift against the better players but lacks motivation against the lower-ranked players. Klaasen is capable of an upset but given his form and injury concerns, I can’t see this match reaching any great heights. There’s little value in the match betting with Taylor at $1.20 to win, but we can make a play in the 180s market. Eventhough Taylor has been hitting the maximums a lot better recently, these two have only had 17 each in eight matches – the equal second-worst in the league. The line is 4.5 at some books, but Bet365 are still giving us a decent price for under 5.5 180s.

TIP: Taylor vs Klaasen under 5.5 180s - $1.83 at Bet365  (BEST BET)

Gary Anderson vs Adrian Lewis

This looms as an interesting match. Both Gary Anderson and Adrian Lewis are in good form and sit right on the edge of the top four. The winner will be right in contention while the loser might find it hard to come back and make the playoffs. Anderson was pretty ruthless in dismantling Kim Huybrechts last week, and really, the world number two hasn’t done a lot wrong this season. He’s near the top of all statistical categories, but that hasn’t always translated to wins. Adrian Lewis was a bit sloppy last week but got the win against Jelle Klaasen. Before that, Lewis had some strong wins against Huybrechts and Taylor, and will be looking for four wins in a row here. If Lewis can bring his best, this should be a very good match. There could be some big scoring and some fireworks. I lean towards Anderson to win, but think it could go the distance. Most books have the legs line at 11.5, but we can get 10.5 at CrownBet.

TIP: Anderson vs Lewis over 10.5 legs - $1.68 at CrownBet

Raymond van Barneveld vs James Wade

Barney has rocketed back into contention this season with back-to-back wins against the top two players in the world. He was awesome against Gary Anderson and then backed it up last week with an almighty win against MVG to bring his unbeaten television run to a quick halt. Barney is simply majestic to watch in full flight and I really hope he continues this form throughout the season. Barney is nestled in third place in the standings while James Wade is under pressure in seventh spot. Wade’s only win in the last four weeks was against the struggling Jelle Klaasen. His scoring has never been his strength but his checkout percentage is currently the worst of the top eight in the Premier League. He’s going to struggle to win matches without those big checkouts. They are giving us a great price for Barney to win at almost even money, and we have to jump on that given his spectacular recent form. If you want to spec a little wider, then try Barney to win, most 180s and highest checkout at William Hill.

TIP: Raymond van Barneveld to win - $1.96 at CrownBet
TIP: Raymond van Barneveld to win, most 180s and highest checkout - $4.00 at William Hill

Michael van Gerwen vs Dave Chisnall

Two players who really enjoyed themselves last week for different reasons. MVG did lose to Barney, but before that, he grabbed the world record for most TV appearances without a loss when he defeated James Wade. It’s a record unlikely to be challenged for a long time. He’s now on top of the standings and looks back to his best with his back injury seemingly behind him. Dave Chisnall didn’t play last week, but losses suffered by Kim Huybrechts and Jelle Klaasen meant that Chisnall was guaranteed to survive relegation and continue in the Premier League beyond Judgement Night. Chisnall has had a few good moments this season, but a lot of frustrations and inconsistency in between, and I can’t see him challenging a rampant MVG here. These two are excellent 180 throwers, arguably the best two in the league. The line is 7.5 at Ladbrokes which is better than the 8.5 at some other books, and MVG did have eight himself last week in his first match of the night. While I’m concerned that MVG blows this away quickly, so there will be less legs to win this bet, I feel if Chizzy can hold his own early then they can get to eight between them.

TIP: MVG vs Chisnall over 7.5 180s - $1.80 at Ladbrokes

Multi: Wright win + Taylor win + Barney most 180s + MVG win - $3.06 at CrownBet
