2017-18 A-League: Round 4 Preview & Betting Tips

October 26th 2017, 4:51pm, By: andyrosos

We hit on just 1 of 4 bets to continue a bit of a tough patch in our A-League betting tips on the weekend. We’ll look to improve here as the season begins to settle into a groove and we present our A-League Round 4 betting tips below.

A-League Round 4 Betting Tips

Sydney FC vs Perth Glory (Friday 7.50pm AEST)

Sydney FC dropped their first points of the season on the weekend as they drew 2-2 with cross town rivals Western Sydney Wanderers. There definitely doesn’t seem to be the air of invincibility surrounding them that there was last year, however, the season is still young and at this point you have to have them as the benchmark of the competition.

Perth Glory were too strong for the Central Coast Mariners last weekend, winning 2-1 with striking pair Andy Keogh and Adam Taggart both hitting the scorecard. The win sends the Glory to 1-1-1 on the season, sitting just inside the top 6.

Sydney FC have the wood over the Glory, winning their last six matchups in all competitions. In that six-game span the Sky Blues have scored a whopping 20 goals to 2 to prove their dominance. Perth play an attacking style of play with two strikers up front which quite often opens them up at the other end, Sydney are yet to cover the -1 handicap in their three games but at home against Perth we think they are a chance.

TIP: Sydney FC -1 - $2.35 at Ladbrokes

Adelaide United vs Melbourne City (Saturday 7.50pm AEST)

Adelaide were great in their matchup against Melbourne Victory last weekend but could only muster a 2-2 draw at home. Vince Lia scored two absolute screamers to put United in front 2-1 but it was a Mitch Austin goal in the 82nd minute that sunk United’s hopes.

Melbourne City made it three out of three against the Wellington Phoenix on the weekend and now sit clear on top of the A-League table. Star recruit Ross McCormak scored his first goal of the season in the 1-0 win over the Phoenix and his up-front pairing with Bruce Kamau looks extremely dangerous.

Tough match to call here, United have looked good in all three of their games but have only been able to come away with one win. Melbourne City have allowed just one goal through their opening games which makes us think away from home they should have the defensive prowess to walk away from Adelaide with at least 1 point.

TIP: Melbourne City to win (draw no bet) - $1.95 at Sportsbet

Newcastle vs Western Sydney Wanderers (Sunday 5pm AEST)

The Jets have been the surprise packet of the season so far and sit 2nd on the table with a 2-1-0 record. Their 5-1 win in Round 1 was backed up with a great 2-1 away win in Round 3 against the Roar. Roy O’Donovan continues to put the ball in the back of the net and leads the golden boot race with five goals through three games.

Western Sydney scored two first half goals to take a 2-0 lead against Sydney FC on the weekend but couldn’t hold on to win as the Sky Blues came back to force a draw. They were arguably the better side throughout the match, however, proving that they will be able to match it with the very best this season.

The Wanderers have been known for their defence in recent years but seem to be a more attacking side through the early rounds of this season. They have scored six goals this season while the Jets lead the league with nine goals already, we like this one to be another high scoring game.

TIP: Total goals OVER 3.5 - $2.50 at CrownBet

Central Coast Mariners vs Melbourne Victory (Sunday 7pm AEST)

The game against the winless Central Coast Mariners couldn’t have come at a better time for the Victory. They currently sit 7th on the A-League table with a 0-1-2 record and will be desperate for a win at Bluetongue Stadium on Sunday night.

They might be without star striker Bersat Berisha, however, with the forward set to face the tribunal after making contact with the referee in the Victory’s 2-2 draw with Adelaide on Friday night.

With or without Berisha, we think the Victory should have enough to get over the line against CCM. Melbourne have arguably played the three toughest teams in the competition in Adelaide, Melbourne City and Sydney FC to open the season, so they should welcome the change of pace here.

TIP: Melbourne Victory to win - $1.95 at Ladbrokes
