Sri Lanka vs Australia 1st ODI Betting Tips
Pallekele International Cricket Stadium, Kandy, Tuesday 7.00pm (AEST)
Australia
Predicted XI: David Warner, Travis Head, Aaron Finch, Mitch Marsh, Steve Smith, Glenn Maxwell, Alex Carey, Ashton Agar, Pat Cummins, Mitch Starc, Josh Hazlewood
Picking this Australian top six is an incredibly tough task at the moment. At their best, their bowling line-up will nearly always be Starc, Hazlewood, Cummins and a spinner, but this top six could really be absolutely anything.
Aaron Finch seems to be holding onto his spot in the line-up by the bearest of margins at the moment, and with so much talent banging down the door, a poor series here could see him out of the Austrlaian white ball setup for good.
Travis Head performed extremely well opening the batting in the three match ODI series against Pakistan back in April, but with David Warner coming back into the side, will Head or Finch go down the order?
Whichever way you shake it for the Aussies, four talented players who are capable of batting in the top six will miss out on a game. At the moment, I see Labuschagne, Green, Inglis and Stoinis as the unlucky candidates.
Sri Lanka
Predicted XI: Pathum Nissanka, Kusal Mendis, Niroshan Dickwella, Dinesh Chandimal, Charith Asalanka, Dasun Shanaka, Chamika Karunaratne, Wanindu Hasaranga, Ramash Mendis, Dushmantha Chameera, Maheesh Theekshana
The No.8 ranked ODI team in the world has had a tough run in the 50 over format in recent years. They have won just 6 of their last 17 ODI matches dating back to the start of 2021, with two of those wins coming against lower ranked team Zimbabwe.
Findin reliable runs has been their major concern over that time period. An extremely high turnover of players in their top six means they don't have a single player ranked in the top 40 ODI batsmen in the world at the moment.
What they have relied on heavily in recent years is their spin bwling contingent. Wanindu Hasaranga has become one of the most potent white ball spinners in the world and is backed up by talented sidekicks in Maheesh Theekshana and Jeffrey Vandersay.
Match Prediction
If this was just another tour for Australia, I could see them marginally taking the foot off the pedal for at least a few of these matches. However, with the T20 World Cup coming up, the Aussies have a full squad in and everyone will be desperate to impress as they look to lock up a place in the squad.
At the moment, David Warner looks like the only stone cold lock in that top seven for the T20 World Cup, and with so many other spots on the line, Australia will be taking no prisoners in this series.
I think the Aussies win this one comfortably, although there is not alot of value there at just $1.29. One market I really like is the 'Century in Match' market. This Aussie bowling line-up has given the Sri Lankans real issues throughout the T20 series so far, so if the Sri Lankans bat first, I can see them getting rolled for a low score, which means a century won't be possible in the match.
If Australia bat first, their top order is so talented at the moment that I think one of them can get off the chain for a big score.
Century in the match (Yes/NO)
$1.90
