Sha Tin Racing Tips: Sunday, July 5th

July 5th 2020, 2:15pm, By: tim_tips

Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing at Sha Tin on Sunday, July 5th.

There's just four meetings remaining in the Hong Kong racing season, with today's 11-race card at Sha Tin sure to play a big part in the race for the Jockeys' Championship. Find our best bets for the day below!

Sha Tin Racing Tips: Sunday, July 5th

Race 1 (Market)

I think the $2.10 for (1) Chancheng Prince is well under the odds here, he won a terrible race last start and there’s more reasons to bet against him. (3) Enchanting Start finished right alongside him on debut over this track and distance, where Enchanting Spirit ran the faster final 400m, and he meets him 3.5kg better at the weights today. Purton takes over from Blake Shinn, he draws barrier 1 (a big advantage over 1200m here) and he’s more than double the price. (8) Super Ten also comes out of that race, finishing a length behind Enchanting Spirit. His final 400m was the fastest of the race and he draws better in barrier 4 today. He gets the weight allowance being a two-year-old and has definite claims. The horse that’s really being overlooked is (2) Sunny Star at $6.00. He started $2.50 favourite last start in a similar race but he failed badly and pulled up with substantial blood in his trachea. Forgive him for that and assess him off his debut win before that, which was ultra-impressive. On that occasion, he beat Chancheng Prince by 2.8L and they meet at the same weights today, yet Chancheng Prince is $2.10 and Sunny Star is $6.00?! Huge market error here and have to bet heavily against the favourite. Enchanting Spirit and Sunny Star the two for me.

Value: (2) Sunny Star $6.00

(3) Enchanting Start

$4.40

Race 2 (Market)

(7) My Sugar comes up the $2.20 favourite here after impressing at the trials. He’s had four in total and after being beaten 17L in the first one, he’s won three straight and has done so in good style. His most recent trial was a 3.3L margin with Purton in the saddle, and he sticks for race day. Barrier 8 is slightly tricky but with even luck he looks your winner. (6) More Than Enough comes up with the all-important barrier 1, a big advantage over the 1200m on the C+3 course, while (4) Fortune Master has to be respected on debut for the powerful Lui/Ho combination.

(7) My Sugar

$2.20

Race 6 (Market)

(12) Sky Show suffered defeat as the $1.60 favourite last start but he makes the step up to Class 3 despite that, meaning he comes into this on the minimum weight of 115 pounds (52kg). Purton can’t make the weight so Moreira picks up the ride and he draws well in barrier 6. It’s his first go on the all-weather track so there is some query in that, but if he handles the surface then this race is well within his grasp. He’s still unexposed and has plenty of room for improvement. Should be able to land one-out-one-back from the barrier and from there he will be very hard to beat with no weight on his back.

(12) Sky Show

$2.60

Race 8 (Market)

Something on (8) Grade One here at huge odds, currently around $31. He draws wide in barrier 12 but on the all-weather track, that’s not the worst thing. He had no luck at all last start at Happy valley, caught wide the whole race, so forget he went around there. Prior to that he ran 2nd to Victoriam, who then came out and won again, so that form is good. He’s placed in three of his four starts at this track and distance (on the all-weather). Hopefully they aren’t extremely negative from the gate because if he is within striking range at the turn, he can run a big race.

(8) Grade One

$31

Race 9 (Market)

(1) Chevalier Prince produced a tough effort to win last start over the 1400m and I think he can do so again here. He cops a 2kg penalty for that win, but he was left exposed about 1000m from home, so it was a better performance than what the margin might have suggested. Prior to that he ran 2nd to Casa De Forca in a race that’s produced a few winners. He draws well in barrier 5 and Purton sticks, so he should prove hard to beat again.

(1) Chevalier Prince

$2.60
