Sandown Hillside gets a rare chance to host Saturday Racing this week with a nine race program on offer. The track provides an open space for gallopers to produce sustained runs around the bend which should suit those who get cover throughout the day.
Race 1 starts us off at five minutes to midday, while the last race on the program concludes at 4:35pm (AEST). The popular quaddie legs are from races six to nine and that gets underway at 2:45pm (AEST). The track is predicted to be a Soft5 and despite it being just a moderate program there are plenty of winners to be found.
Brendan Bunworth brings you his Sandown best bets for the day below as well as his Quaddie selections, with odds thanks to Ladbrokes.
Also, we're coming off a big day on Wednesday with a number of winners, so if you’re after more free tips for this weekend's key meetings, then head over to our Racing Tips!

Sandown Racing Tips: Saturday, May 23rd 2026
Race 7: Tile Importer Handicap 1600m - 3:25pm (AEST)
(6) Narbold is second up from a spell for Chris Waller and and it was a good effort last start when he came from midfield to just lose (2nd) at Caulfield, beaten less than a length. Since the markets opened he has actually drifted in betting and that may be due to the fact he hasn’t placed at Hillside yet. He has placed both times when Jye McNeil has been on top and he has a pretty good win/place strike rate having been in the money 14 of 20 starts.
(3) Sir Atlas Is first up here and he does have a pretty good first up record and he has won 3 of 8 occasions over this distance.
(11) Boniface has drawn wide (14) but has shortened in betting since markets opened. Third up now and fitter. Consistent gelding in the Price&Kent stable and this is his toughest assignment to date.
(6) Narbold WIN
$5.00 (1 unit)
Race 8: Stow Storage Solutions Handicap 1400m - 4:05pm (AEST)
(13) King Zephyr has drawn wide in 14 but he is down in class for this race he is unbeaten at Hillside. He trialled up well at Caulfield Heath on May 14(2nd) and he was favourite but ran on really well when beaten at Flemington last start (2nd) and another look at 1400m looks ideal. He has one third up previously and gets a 1.5 kg claim for Cartwright.
(12) Big Swinger has drawn very wide in 17 which will make things tough but he has one three times when Craig Williams has been on top. Defeated King Zephyr last start but has drawn worse this time.
(14) Grid Girl is a roughie at $18 but this mare does go well when first up. Has had two Werribee trails in the lead up and looked good. Will get back in the run and will be running on late. Had a wide barrier when 2nd last time at Launceston.
(13) KIng Zephyr WIN
$4.00 (1 unit)
Race 9: Sportset More Places Handicap 1400m - 4:35pm (AEST)
(15) Duchess Zou let us down when we tipped her on here last start (10th) but we will give her another chance after 4 runs in from a spell. Before that Bendigo run she was favourite and ran on fairly for 2nd when beaten half a length. Steps up another 100 meters here and she is the likely favourite again.
(17) Rosa Aoteaoa is an interesting runner from the Reece Goodwin yard. He is going for four in a row and is capable on both good and soft tracks. Luke Cartwright gave him a gun run last start when the gelding saluted at Bendigo over 1300 meters. He had a wide barrier that day too (10) but it doesn’t get any easier drawing 18 here.
(13) Mometz is big odds but he does go well with Luke Nolen on top. He has drawn well in barrier 4 and the Peter Moody&Katherine Coleman stable have been doing well.
(15) Duchess Zou WIN
$4.60 (1 unit)
