French Open Day 6 Betting Tips
Andrey Rublev vs Nuno Borges
(Approx. Friday 7pm AEST)
Jannik Sinner is out, and all of a sudden, everyone in the draw sees this fortnight as a massive opportunity for themselves. There won't be many times in the decade ahead where we are at round 3 of a grand slam and Jannik Sinner and Carlos Alcaraz are out of the tournament. Who can take advantage?
With a number of up-and-coming players making a name for themselves this week, I feel as though the form of Andrey Rublev has perhaps gone under the radar a little bit. He made the final of Barcelona, then the quarters of Rome, where he met his demise at the hands of Jannik Sinner. To me, his two wins to date this week have been strong, defeating last weeks' title winner Ignacio Buse in 4 sets, then Camilo Ugo Carabelli in 4 sets. Whilst I wouldn't say he is elite when it comes to handling the hottest conditions, the court speed as a result of the weather today should really play into his hands as well.
Nuno Borges has also been solid on his way to round 3, with wins over Tomas Martin Etcheverry and Miomir Kecmanovic, having dropped only one set along the way. I think both of those players don't quite have the weapons, or consistent aggression, that Borges will see today from the other end of the court. I think he'd rather see things be a little cooler and slower here given the style of opponent today.
The knock on Rublev is always the fact that is Plan B on court if things aren't going well is to use Plan A even harder, but in this type of match-up I don't mind it. I think the short to medium term clay form heavily favours him, and I am happy to step into the -4.5 game handicap for 2 units.
