Port Adelaide vs Richmond

With Brisbane winning on Saturday, Port Adelaide are now unable to secure a top two spot on the ladder and can only finish as high as third with a win in their final match. Still, motivation levels will be high because finishing third will see them take on the Lions in week one of the finals – a team they beat comfortably in their only meeting this season, while a loss will potentially have them finish fourth and take on the Magpies in their first final – a team they’ve lost two twice from as many attempts in 2023.
The Power have found some of their best form at a crucial stage in the season. They snapped their four-game losing streak a fortnight ago when they smashed the in-form Giants by 51 points, and managed to back it up with a 16-point win on the road against the Dockers last weekend.
Round 23 was an emotional one for Richmond who farewelled two of their club champions in Trent Cotchin and Jack Riewoldt. Their teammates were able to lift for the occasion and send the pair off with a win as they defeated the Kangaroos at the MCG by 29 points.
Coming off an emotional win and with finals out of the equation, motivation levels might not be too high for the Tigers in their final match of the year. Further, It seems as though caretaker coach Andrew McQualter is happy to use the final round to do some experimenting after making six changes at the selection table on Thursday night.
Match prediction: The Power will be desperate to head into the finals in winning form and they certainly have the fixture to accomplish that as they come up against a Tigers outfit with nothing to play for. The line has been set at a whopping six goals, but I still think the home side can cover that with a couple of goals to spare.
