Well…the Women’s Wimbledon draw was certainly flipped on its head yesterday. With Iga Swiatek and Elena Rybakina both losing in straight sets, Jessica Pegula now sits second in the outright markets behind Aryna Sabalenka.
We got the chocolates with Pegula in her last round, comfortably accounting for Jessica Bouzas Maneiro and covering the game handicap. Whilst she may not be performing at her absolute top level, she has shown herself to have exceptional control in matches where she has the power edge, particularly across the course of this grass season. That is the type of form that I find appealing: winning well, but still with room to improve across the course of the fortnight.
She will need to be at her best if we get the best version of Iva Jovic. The young American has been one of the revelations of 2026, and now has another strong grand slam performance to add to her CV. Her round 3 win was not without its struggles though, needing a tight third set to get over the line against Ekaterina Alexandrova having come in as a very warm favourite.
I want to be fair to Jovic, who I have a lot of time for, however it is worth noting that she had to save 14/18 break points just to squeeze over the line against Alexandrova. That type of level just isn’t going to cut it against Pegula in my opinion, particularly with how she is hitting her spots on her serve and playing with some of the highest confidence levels I can recall from her in recent years.
To me, this shapes as a match where Pegula's strengths will come to the fore. I have this handicapped at a 4.5/5 game handicap, given how highly I rate Pegula in this spot. Therefore, I am very happy to step into the -3.5 game handicap here.
