It’s the world’s richest race for two-year olds as The Golden Slipper takes centre stage at Rosehill in Sydney this Saturday.
The favourite for the 1,200m Gold Slipper is the undefeated Earthquake. This filly has been dominant in four victories, including the Group 1 Blue Diamond, and is clearly the one to beat.
It seems that the biggest obstacle for Earthquake may be the weather, with a soft track likely to bring a few others into contention. Mossfun’s only loss was the Earthquake last year, while Bring Mr The Maid is coming off a strong win last Saturday in soft conditions in the Group 2 Magic Night Stakes. Unencumbered is a horse that has brought joy to Before You bet followers in the past and offers some good odds for a colt with five wins from eight starts, while Oakleigh Girl is another filly with an outside chance coming back from a spell.
Verdict: Earthquake is a rock solid favourite for a reason, and has won from an outside barrier previously so that’s not really a concern. The speed in the race will come from the outside, so she should be able to take a sit with cover behind them. The track should be dry enough so she will be very hard to beat If there is some rain about then Mossfun should be savered, while Unemcumbered offers some juicy odds.
