The X Factor Loses Its “X” Factor

February 17th 2016, 1:20pm, By: Heath Chick

While betting on reality TV is gaining in popularity in Australia, that doesn’t always translate to the popularity of a show.

Some reality TV shows are enjoying a resurgence with Channel Ten’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here enjoying its prime time viewing slot, while Australia continues its obsession with cooking shows with My Kitchen Rules going from strength to strength on Channel Seven.  We’re also expecting to see some big ratings numbers for the relaunch of an Australian version of Survivor later in the year, with this evergreen show up to its 32nd season in the US.

However it seems that the fad of talent shows might be on the wane in Australia with The X Factor rumoured to be on the chopping block according to the betting from online bookmaker Sportsbet.

Odds have shortened to $2.50 for The X Factor not to return to our television screens this year and odds of $5.00 at Sportsbet to be scrapped permanently.

"All good things eventually come to an end and the chances of The X Factor joining the likes of Australian Idol on the scrapheap seems to increase weekly,’’ said sportsbet.com.au’s Will Byrne.

If The X Factor does return, then it appears a few changes might be in store with both host Luke Jacobz and judge James Blunt favoured to not return at odds of $1.75 at Sportsbet.
