Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday August 15th 2026

August 13th 2026, 2:57pm, By: Trent Orwin

Caulfield Racing Tips

Caulfield hosts a nine-race card on Saturday, headlined by the Group 2 P.B. Lawrence Stakes which is a 1400m event. Perth’s star jockey William Pike will ride Cosmic Crusader in the $300,000 event.

The first race kicks off at 12:25pm and the track is currently rated a Soft 7 with the rail in the true position. Monitor for any track changes as partly cloud conditions with a slight chance of rain are predicted on race day.

Our three best bets for Caulfield are listed below. Good luck to everyone following along!

Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, August 15th 2026

Race 2: Remembering Diatribe 2000m – 1:00pm AEST

(2) Amleto is prepared by star trainer Ciaron Maher and gets in-form apprentice Jabez Johnstone. The seven-year-old gelding hasn’t missed a placing in the last seven runs, winning twice. The latest was last start when capturing a Benchmark 84 Handicap. He should go close again.

(4) Simurgh has had a brief spell but has been ticking over with a pair of jump outs, so it’s nothing more than a freshen-up for the gelding. Already the winner of three races and runner up in another three from just seven starts, he looks a huge chance in this event.

(5) Stop The Rock was a winner three runs ago and then followed it up with a nice third. At the latest, he was beaten 5 lengths by Amleto but that wasn’t his best effort. He could improve and run a nice race at odds.

(2) Amleto E/W

$6.50/$2.40 (1U/2U)

Race 7: Catanach’s Jewellers P.B. Lawrence Stakes 1400m – 4:00pm AEST

(7) Cosmic Crusader is a former WA galloper, winning the Group 1 Northerly Stakes last year. At his first run for new trainer Andrea Leek, he captured the Group 3 Bletchingly Stakes by 2.5 lengths. Interestingly, Daniel Stackhouse has been replaced by Willie Pike who has not ridden the horse before. If Cosmic Crusader brings any of his best Perth form or last start’s effort, he is going to take plenty of beating second-up from a spell.

(1) Private Eye resumes and he is closing in on surpassing $13 million in earnings which is pretty good for a horse that has won a single Group 1 race. He is the defending champion of the race after beating Desert Lightning who is also back. He should roll forward from the wide gate and go close.

(2) Evaporate was last seen running ninth in the Group 1 Doncaster Mile and has since had a pair of jump outs. He will be right on the speed and should give a bold sight.

(7) Cosmic Crusader WIN

$2.50 (3 Units)

Race 9: Toby Newton Handicap 1600m – 5:15pm AEST

(3) Light Infantry Man beat Pride Of Jenni in the Group 1 Australian Cup back in March. He then was well beaten and turned out for a spell. Two trials should have him warmed up for a first-up assault over the mile. While he will want further this preparation, his class alone will see him run a huge race. He will carry 60kg with the claim from Jabez Johnstone who is riding well and should be near the front of the field or leading.

(13) Darkbonee will carry just 53kg with Jamie Melham picking up the ride. A winner of three races from nine starts, the gelding ran second a fortnight ago in a Benchmark 74, running past a lot of rivals in the Flemington home straight. He looks to be a horse on the up and should run well.

(8) First Chorus brought up the hat-trick with a win over Detonator Jack at Caulfield-Heath last start. She drops back from 1800m to the mile, has plenty of fitness about her, and has strong claims of making it four straight wins.

(3) Light Infantry Man WIN

$5.50 (1 Unit)
