Wimbledon Day 8 Betting Tips
Madison Keys vs Linda Noskova
Tuesday July 7, approx. 12:00am AEST
There is a strong case for either player to win this outright, but rather than pick a side, I think the value here is in the length of the contest. Let’s take a look at both players before locking in a selection.
Let’s start with Madison Keys, who is now the third favourite to claim the Wimbledon title. On her day, she is one of the most destructive ball-strikers in the women’s game, and when the first serve is landing, she can blow almost anyone off the court.
However, that ‘when’ looms large, as there are certainly some patches to her level both within sets and matches that can make her a little vulnerable. She traded to an underdog from $1.10 pre-match in her first round clash with Kayla Day, and also started slowly against Amanda Anisimova in the last round. To her credit, she has been able to respond incredibly well, but there isn’t that dominant-from-start-to-finish feel to her game against solid grass court opposition in my opinion.
And that is where Linda Noskova comes into things. Those who read the pre-tournament preview will know I was high on Noskova, even tipping her to make her way out of this quarter. That bet is still live, but she will need to be at her best today to challenge the American. She certainly has the grass court form to match it with Keys, and won’t take a backward step in baseline battles and simply allow Keys to take control.
My main play for this one is over 22.5 games. I am a big fan of both players’ games and this should be an awesome viewing contest, but what also stood out in their third-round clashes was their ability to respond when behind on the scoreboard. Both are willing to step up, take the match on, and remain in the contest, which is exactly the type of trait I like when looking at a total games over.
For me, the main bet is the over 22.5 total games, with a smaller play on Set 1 Total Games over 12.5, or Tiebreak “Yes”, at $4.50. I’ll also be cheering Noskova for the outright.
