French Open Day 5 Betting Tips
Jan-Lennard Struff vs Jaime Faria
(Approx. Thursday 7pm AEST)
Fresh off a bit upset win, can Jan Lennard Struff do it again?
I am generally not someone who tips in to Struff too much as I have felt over the years that the market has had a stronger opinion of the German than myself. That being said, now in the back end of his career, it appears to have flipped somewhat. He comes into this one off one of the bigger round 1 upsets, taking down Alex Bublik in 4 sets. It could have been more comfortable, were it not for poor set point conversion in the second set. Nevertheless, he has looked really solid in the conditions, using his experience to navigate one match as an underdog. Time to do it again.
As I said above, I do think Struff deserves more market respect, but I can appreciate why beating Bublik doesn't move the needle given the fact Bublik can be so up and down himself. He has a major experience edge at grand slams and in these type of conditions, it's hard to ignore the moneyline price for him right now. Faria comes into this one off a victory over Canadian Denis Shapovalov, how has really struggled over the course of the clay season. I love Faria's game and his potential, but on his recent form, it is hard to entertain him. Even more so when you consider that over the short term, Faria has been significantly overperforming on break point save and conversion over the last 10 clay matches relative to his general averages, and Struff has actually been underperforming. Considering I already liked Struff, plus the stats lending themselves to room for improvement on the German's side, the moneyline is the bet for me.
