NFL 2023-24: Week 8 Monday Preview & Betting Tips

October 29th 2023, 4:10pm, By: Johnny Houston

NFL Betting Tips

Week 8 in the NFL boasts a fantastic 14 game slate on Monday, headlined by the clash between the Chargers and Bears from LA at 11.20am. As always, we have you covered with previews for the key games as well as betting tips for every matchup below.

NFL Week 8 Monday Betting Tips

Los Angeles Rams at Dallas Cowboys

Monday 4am (AEDT)

Arguably the best of the early games sees the 4-2 Cowboys hosting the 3-4 Rams from 4am. The Cowboys were the hottest team in the league through the early stages of the season but have looked shaky over their last two, losing 42-10 to the 49ers before barely scraping over the line in a 20-17 win over the Chargers. They will have the added benefit of a two week break after their bye in Week 7.

The Rams have had an up and down season to date and will be on the back of a 17-24 loss to the Steelers in their Week 7 matchup taking them to 3-4 on the season. They are, however, a healthy 4-2-1 against the spread and are ranked 16th in the league in total offence and 14th in the league in total defence.

The Cowboys start as 6.5 point favourites at home and I’m leaning towards them at that line given they have had the week off. They are 4-1 against the spread this season when favoured and are 2-0 straight up and against the spread at home.

Betting Stats

- The Cowboys are an impressive 21-9 against the spread as favourites since 2021.
- Simarlarly, the Rams are 6-0-1 against the spread in their last seven games when coming off a straight up loss.
- The under is 8-5-1 in the 14 games involving the Cowboys or Rams this season.

Cowboys -6.5

Cincinnati Bengals at San Francisco 49ers

Monday 7.25am (AEDT)

Much like the Cowboys, the 49ers started the season in hot form but have since dropped away over the last two weeks, losing to the Browns on the road by two points before going down to the Vikings by five points on the road in Week 8. They are still 5-2 on the season and sit atop the NFC West standings, and will be back at home this week as they face the Bengals.

On the contrary, the Bengals dropped their first two games of the season but have since won three of four, covering the spread in their last two against the Cardinals and Seahawks. Their defence has been particularly good over the last two weeks, allowing just 18.5 points per game They have a solid looking injury list compared to other teams at the moment, with only three players confirmed out this week.

The 49ers start as 3.5 point favourites here, which I think is a little low given they are back at home this week where they have been fantastic this season. They do have some injury issues though, with key offensive players in Christian McCaffrey, Deebo Samuel and Brock Purdy all currently listed as questionable. Because of that, I’m leaning towards the unders here.

Betting Stats

- The 49ers are 3-0 both straight up and against the spread at home this season. In those three games, they have an average winning margin of 23.0 points.
- Joe Burrow has been one of the better road quarterbacks in the league during his career. He is 19-10 against the spread, on the road, including playoffs.
- The Bengals have been solid when underdogs in recent history, covering their last five games.

Under 43.5

Chicago Bears at Los Angeles Chargers

Monday 11.20am (AEDT)

At times this season, the Chargers offence has looked like one of the league led by Justin Herbert. They have been unable to translate that form into wins though, as they currently sit at 2-4 on the season and are reeling in third place in the AFC West. Luckily, they’ll get an extremely winnable game at home in primetime on Monday as they face the 2-5 Bears.

The Bears have an extensive injury list heading into the Week 8 clash, headlined by quarterback Justin Fields, who is currently listed as questionable with a thumb injury while RB Khalil Herbert is out with an ankle. They are 2-4-1 against the spread this season, good for fourth worst in the league.

The Chargers start as 8.5 point favourites at home and this is the one where I think they finally bounce into some form and capture a comfortable win. With the uncertainty of the Bears skill position players at the moment and their form in general I’m steering way clear of the Bears for the foreseeable future.

Betting Stats

- Since Bears head coach Matt Eberflus took over, Chicago has the worst against the spread record in the league at 7-15-2.
- In that same span, teams have been putting up big numbers against the Bears. The over is 16-8 in that span while the overs are 7-1 this season for the Bears.
- The Bears and Chargers have played just 13 times over the course of their franchises, with the Bears holding a 7-6 head to head record. In their last meeting, the Chargers won 17-16 in Chicago.

Chargers -8.5
