New Zealand Breakers vs Cairns Taipans

Friday 5:30pm AEDT, November 3rd, Wolfbrook Arena

It’s almost getting to season on the line type stuff for the New Zealand Breakers – that’s how poor they’ve been to start the season. They came into NBL24 with all sorts of hype after their miracle run to the championship series last season, but have failed to deliver thus far. All was well when they won their opening game of this campaign, but four straight losses has built immense pressure leading into Friday night’s battle with the Cairns Taipans. Interestingly enough, the Breakers only win of the season so far was against the Taipans, and they were also the home side in that Round 1 meeting. The Breakers are running out of time and excuses and they simply have to find a way to get back onto the winners list in this matchup. In my opinion, they’re far too talented to be travelling this poorly and I expect them to get the better of the Taipans whose star player in Patrick Miller is under a big injury cloud.

New Zealand Breakers -3.5

$1.84 (2.5 Units)

Illawarra Hawks vs Sydney Kings

Tasmania JackJumpers vs Brisbane Bullets

Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, November 4th, Silverdome

The Tasmania JackJumpers and the Brisbane Bullets will come together for the second time in less than week when they battle it out this Saturday night. In the reverse fixture last Sunday in Brisbane the Bullets were able to outlast the JackJumpers in a see-sawing affair, coming away three-point winners. The Bullets have been able to ride the wave of momentum after that victory and come into this matchup on a three-game win streak. Meanwhile, the JackJumpers find themselves in a bit of a funk after a great start to NBL24. They’ve lost two in a row and three of their last four to drop back to an even 4-4 on the season. Despite their dip in form, the bookies have priced the JackJumpers as the heavy favourites to bounce back with a win on Saturday. However, the +7.5 handicap seems to be fairly disrespectful to the Bullets considering recent performances. I’ll be backing them in to cover the spread on the road.

Brisbane Bullets +7.5

$1.85 (1.5 Units)

Perth Wildcats vs Adelaide 36ers

Saturday 8pm AEDT, November 4th, RAC Arena

What on earth has happened to the Wildcats? They began the season touted as one of the top championship favourites and franked those sentiments with a strong first up win at home against the JackJumpers. However, it’s gone from bad to worse since then and they enter Round 6 on a four-game losing streak. Elsewhere, the 36ers have been surprisingly competitive early doors in NBL24 despite the lack of household names on their roster. In some ways, they’ve mirrored the Wildcats season by starting off with a four-game losing streak, but entering this weekend with a couple of wins in a row under their belts. In all honestly, this is a game where anything could happen. Bryce Cotton and the Wildcats will find some form at some point and if it’s in this game, then they could certainly blow the 36ers off the court. Conversely, if they continue on their current trajectory, they could quite easily suffer their fifth straight loss. Personally, I haven’t lost faith in the Wildcats just yet and will be taking them to cover the small spread at home, but only for a solitary unit.

Perth Wildcats -3.5

$1.87 (1 Unit)

SE Melbourne Phoenix vs Cairns Taipans

Sunday 2pm AEDT, November 5th, John Cain Arena

Two teams looking to bounce back from losses in their opening Round 6 games will meet in the first game on Sunday afternoon, as the South East Melbourne Phoenix welcome the Cairns Taipans to Victoria for the first time this season. The Phoenix were thoroughly outplayed by the Bullets on Thursday night, but now return home where they’re 4-0 this season compared to 1-4 on the road. Likewise, the Snakes have struggled away from home in NBL24 with a 1-3 record, while also being undefeated at home. Clearly, both of these clubs lift when the home support is behind them and it’s fair to say the Phoenix are the deserving favourites as a result. I’m happy to back them in to win and cover the small spread.

SE Melbourne Phoenix -5.5

$1.84 (1.5 Units)

Sydney Kings vs New Zealand Breakers

Sunday 4pm AEDT, November 5th, Qudos Bank Arena

After back-to-back road games where they came away with a split, the Sydney Kings return to Qudos Bank Arena on Sunday night where they’ll take on the New Zealand Breakers in a rematch of last season’s Grand Finalists. The Kings snapped a mini two-game losing streak with a win over the Hawks in the Freeway Series on Friday night. Their offensive firepower proved to be far too much for their rivals to handle, led by Jaylen Adams with 16 points and seven assists. Elsewhere, the Breakers finally got back onto the winners list with a win over the Snakes to being Round 6. They had lost four in a row prior and the season was starting to slip away. However, I can’t see them doubling the dose and finding another win on Sunday. Without Zylan Cheatham the Breakers are an incredibly small lineup and are one that I can’t see matchup up well against the Kings who have plenty of length. With that in mind, I’ll be on the home side to cover the spread.

Sydney Kings -5.5

$1.92 (2 Units)
