Wimbledon Day 6 Betting Tips
Jaume Munar vs Jiri Lehecka
Saturday July 4, approx. 10:00pm AEST
There is plenty to like about Jiri Lehecka on paper in this match-up, but I do feel as though the market has perhaps overrated him ever so slightly. Let’s unpack why I like Jaume Munar to keep this a whole lot closer than the price suggests as the pair meet for a place in the fourth round.
Let’s start with Lehecka. There is no questioning the quality when he is playing at a level near his best, and he has looked the part through two rounds with straight-set wins over Popyrin and Molcan. However, when you zoom out a little more and look at the whole grass season, there have still been some issues at times. The loss to Rinky Hijikata stands out, while the match against Ben Shelton in Stuttgart also showed that things can get complicated after being in a fantastic position and holding a handful of match points. Lehecka can absolutely get the job done here, but if you can turn things into a bit of a scrap, it can become a lot more difficult for him.
Someone who fits that mould as being able to genuinely challenge here is Jaume Munar, who has quietly gone about his business this week. He defeated Francisco Cerundolo in straight sets in one of the upsets of the first round, then held his nerve through some tight moments to defeat home hope Fearnley in straight sets in Round 2. He has added a bit more pop to his game over the last 18 months, and it seems to be showing out a little more on the grass. Munar makes you earn every single game, and is the type of player that you love to be on from a betting perspective as a result.
To me, this feels like the handicap should sit around the 3 to 3.5 game mark. Therefore, I am happy to step into the 4.5 game handicap for a bet, as well as a small play on the moneyline.
