Morphettville Coast Racing Tips: Saturday, May 10th 2025
Race 5: Sportsbet Ken and Helen Smith SA Fillies Classic – 2500m – 2:37pm (AEST)
(1) Cavity Bay: 3YO Filly who has been sound in most of her runs this campaign and hasn’t had the best of luck. Her most recent run in the SA Derby last weekend was solid where she hit the line nicely once she found room. This looks easier than that and she gets a nice draw with Jamie Melham to steer. Id like to see a slightly better price, but she does look to be the one to beat. Goes well.
(3) Chase Your Dreams: 3YO Filly who continues to improve. She was very good last start at Echuca blousing them over 2100m. This extra 400m shouldn’t be an issue and she gets Mark Zahra to steer. Danger.
(10) Pelevecchio: 3YO Filly who wasn’t the worst finishing off soundly over 2100m. Draws pole today and will be running on. Value
(1) Cavity Bay
$2.80 (3.5 units)
Race 6: Hahn Cummings Stakes - 1600m – 3:12pm (AEST)
(2) Arran Bay: 6YO gelding who looks to be one of the better bets of the day here. He went enormous last start against similar company only being nutted on the line by REGAL AZMON. This fella had to lug 62.5kg there and the winner had a 8.5kg swing in favour. They had a nice gap to third too. He gets set weights this time round and only has to lug 55.5kg. He meets all of his opponents significantly better at the weights and will only be improving fourth up. He boasts a tidy fourth up record and handles the wet track comfortably if it remains as a SOFT deck. Draws a gate and maps to get a similar run to last time. At set weights he looks to be a great bet here. On top for me.
(6) Scheelite: 4YO Gelding who was sound last week travelling behind the great Pride of Jenni. In from $6.00 already and will be rock hard fit for this. Chance.
(7) Nonconformist: 8YO Gelding who rates very well here and probably has the best CV of the lot. Has won fresh on one occasion which was in a Blamey and closed intently behind Buckeroo last campaign who is listed favourite in the Group 2 up in QLD. Has a case, but I think id prefer to see how he’s returned being 8 now and only the one first up win to his name.
(2) Arran Bay E/W
$5.00/$2.00 (1u/2u)
Race 8: The Goodwood - 1200m – 4:30pm (AEST)
(2) Climbing Star: Roughie of the field who was terrific when resuming over 1100m hitting the line intently. Failed to fire last start finishing 5L off the winner in Charm Stone who she meets again here. If you can forgive that run and look at this as her second up run she has to have a case. Draws well and maps to get the run of the race. Blow out hope.
(7) Giga Kick: 5YO Gelding who is clearly the class horse of the field with his success at Group 1 level and is arguably one of the best sprinters we have in Australia. He is close to 13Million in prize money and was only narrowly beaten in the 2024 Everest which is the marquee event for the world’s best sprinters. He has had a nice break, and this looks to be a handy race to return for. Proven fresh performer and handles the GOOD/SOFT track very well. Nicely weighted with Money Mark Zahra to steer. Only query is the barrier, but other than that he looks awfully hard to beat. Top pick.
(11) Generosity: 4YO Mare who makes the trek over from WA to fly the flag for those supporters. She has been terrific in all of her runs back in listed/group 3 grade with some handy late sectionals. Most recently she finished third in the Quokka behind JOKERS GRIN / HEADWALL which is a pretty handy form line to have. (beating the likes of OVERPASS there too). She drops 4kg off that run and gets another nice alley which puts her right in this. She is rock hard fit and if she has travelled well, she has to be considered off her recent runs and with the light weight. Knockout.
Also Backing: (11) Generosity - $12/$2.80 (1u E/W) at Ladbrokes
(7) Giga Kick
$2.20 (4 units)
