The 2021 AFL season kicks off this Thursday with the traditional battle between Richmond and Carlton at 7:25pm AEDST. The MCG will be popping for the first time in a long time and everyone in Melbourne will be thankful to have some footy in town once again.
To celebrate the return of our great game, we have some massive fantasy AFL contests on offer at both Draftstars and DraftKings this Thursday, and throughout the 2021 AFL season.
Draftstars are back with a bang with a massive AU$150,000 guaranteed contest for Thursday night. Entry is just AU$15 and the top prize is estimated to be around $15,000. What a great way to kick off the season that would be! Draftstars are using the same DFS format as previous seasons – select two forwards, four mids, two backs and a ruckman under the salary cap and whichever team accumulates the most fantasy points in the game will take home the prize money!
In addition to the main event, Draftstars offer smaller Mini ($2) and Fiver ($5) contests, as well as a $150 High Roller with a $15,000 prize pool.

DraftKings are also throwing their support behind the AFL season with a US$60,000 guaranteed prize pool for Thursday night for a US$15 buy-in. First prize will be an enormous US$20,000! DraftKings have changed their format up this AFL season and will be using their Showdown/Captain format for single-game slates. This format will see all players treated as the same “Flex” position, but one player you can select as your captain to earn 1.5x points. It’s something that the US players would have seen before for NBA contests, but it might be new to a lot of Australian players, so it will be interesting to see how that plays out.
DraftKings also cater to a variety of bank rolls, starting with the US$0.50 Mini-MAX, through to the US$275 Tagger contest which has a US$17,000 prize pool.
