We’ve got good racing throughout the country today with a strong meeting at Canterbury as well as Sandown playing host to an 8 race card.
As usual, Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the day’s racing and brings you his best bets to get us over the midweek hump!
Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, May 26th
Canterbury Race 3
(1 Azarmin has been flying recently and made up for a luckless placing two starts back with a very impressive win over this trip last start. Thought this race looked no harder and she should be ready to fire after a little freshen up leading into this. McDonald sticks for the ride and this horse only needs to hold her form to be another good winning chance.
Canterbury Race 4
I really think (1) Osamu can bring up a 2nd straight win after finally breaking his maiden tag last start. This horse has been thrown in the deep end his whole career and run some good races against some of the better horses going around. Finally got the confidence boosting win he deserved and looks well placed back in these types of races. Stable flying and gets a nice 3kg claim to offset the big weight.
Canterbury Race 7
(3) Cadenabbia returned to racing with an impressive win in the wet over 1300m. Will only have to improve off that run to be a very strong chance today. Like the rise in trip and has won over this distance before. Looks to have a horse with fair share of ability and can handle the step up to this grade.
Sandown Race 4
No flash odds about him but (2) Nikau Spur should be winning this on best form. Pulled up with some post race issues last start where he started a hot favurite and if you can forgive him on that run, this looks a very winnable race. First up run was too good to ignore and should be beating a field of this quality.
Sandown Race 7
Thought (6) Mckeever was a touch over the odds after looking pretty promising in his first tw career starts. Started well in the market in a strong bm70 at Warnambool last start after bolting in a maiden which has turned out to be a reasonably good form race. Just had too much to do last start but was still very impressive and surprised to see $8+ available coming back in grade today. Should get gun run from gate 2 and looks a good winning chance.
