Morphettville hosts a nine-race program on Saturday with The Sportsbet Goodwood Group 1 being the feature race on the day. Coming up in Race 8 and run over 1200m, there are a number of very high quality horses in the field. Below, we take you through some of the key chances and bring you our best bets!
(4) Desert Lightning: 6YO Gelding who resumed at big odds and was good hitting the line and maybe looked as though he needed further. He remains at 1200m now though and gets a much kinder draw which should allow him to settle closer in the run. Talented type and looks over the odds again for this. Best is good enough to be competitive here. Fitter for the first up run and will be thereabouts. One for the exotics
(6) Super Smink: 5YO Mare who has resumed well. First up was terrific coming from last to pick them all up at group 3 level over 1100m. Very good effort. Second up run was in the Group 1 Sangster and she was caught three / four wide without cover for the entirety which made it awfully tough to run on with them. However, she was still sound enough to the line and only went down by 2.5L. Fitter again now third up and with some luck in the run she has to be a top hope. I think they have got the market wrong for her and she is a genuine hope at huge odds. Each way value.
(13) Flying For Fun: 4YO Mare who arguable wins the Group 1 Sangster last start when she come from last and savaged the line to only miss by a pimple in a blanket finish. Of note she drops 2.5kg of her back from that run, and maps fairly. If she can produce a similar effort to last start she wins this. Fourth up now and is ready to win. Top pick.
Also Backing: (6) Super Smink - E/W $26/$5.50 (0.5U/1.5U)
