Manchester City vs Sunderland

Manchester City host Sunderland in a top six clash at the Etihad, with Man City looking to keep themselves within touching distance of Arsenal. With Arsenal facing Aston Villa away there is a chance Arsenal may drop points, so it’s crucial that City get the job done against Sunderland. In what has been a major shock, Sunderland continue to remain at the top end of the table, bravely holding on for a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield during the week.
Pep Guardiola’s side have won four out of their last five games after holding on in a thrilling 5-4 win over Fulham during the week. The result looked all but done after 54 minutes when City led 5-1, before Fulham scored three late goals to set up a thrilling finish. Manchester City’s defence was poor in the last 30 minutes of the game, which should serve as a bit of a wake up call for City. However their attacking game was brilliant, with Erling Haaland scoring again, while Phil Foden added a brace.
Sunderland have been brilliant in defence this season, but coming up against Manchester City will be the biggest challenge they’ve faced this season. City are the highest scoring team in the league with 32 goals, 5 goals clear of the next best side, they possess the league’s top goal scorer in Erling Haaland (15 goals) and the league’s second leading assist getter in Jermey Doku (4 assists). Sunderland have been brave and exceeded expectations, but the dam wall will burst at the Etihad.

Bournemouth vs Chelsea

It’s been a horror week for Chelsea who were sitting second on the table heading into Matchday 13, but a draw against Arsenal and a shock loss against Leeds has seen Chelsea drop to fourth place, nine points off top spot. After a positive start to the season, Bournemouth have fallen off a cliff, recording four losses and one draw in their last five games. The Cherries were beaten 1-0 at home by Everton during the week, in a lifeless performance.
The big concern for Bournemouth coming into the game is their defence, especially when coming up against a potent Chelsea attack. The Cherries have conceded 24 goals from 14 games, ranked 16th in the Premier League, while Chelsea are the 3rd highest scoring team in the league with 25 goals. Bournemouth are going to have their work cut out for them at the defensive end, and it’s difficult to see them holding up against such a dangerous attack.
Another daunting prospect for Bournemouth is their record against Chelsea over the last five years. Bournemouth last beat Chelsea in 2019, since then Chelsea have recorded four wins and three draws against the Cherries. Even dating back to Bournemouth's promotion to the top flight in 2015, they have a 4-3-9 record in Premier League fixtures against Chelsea. Chelsea will be desperate to bounce back and will do so against an out of form Bournemouth side, in convincing fashion.
