EPL 2023-24: Matchday 32 Preview & Betting Tips

Crystal Palace vs Manchester City

Selhurst Park, Saturday 6th April, 10:30pm AEDT

A Phil Foden hattrick spearheaded a ruthless Manchester City performance on Thursday morning as they bounced back from consecutive draws, with a 4-1 win over Aston Villa. City back up less than 72 hours later when they travel to London to take on fourteenth placed Crystal Palace. Palace come into this fixture on the back of a 1-0 loss against Bournemouth, which leaves them without a win from their last four games. It’s been a lean run in 2024 for Crystal Palace, holding a 2-3-5 in the Premier League since the turn of the calendar year.

Pep Guardiola‘s side were back to their best in a comprehensive display against Aston Villa. City recorded 25 shots to Villa’s 8, and maintained 68% possession with their unbeaten streak in the league now standing at sixteen games. The defending champions’ unbeaten streak has been built on the back of balance at both ends of the pitch. Manchester City are the second highest scoring team in the league this season with 67 goals and they have the 3rd ranked defence (29 goals conceded) in the Premier League.

Crystal Palace have struggled to get past Manchester City over the last five years. Since 2019 Palace have registered one win, three draws and six losses in Premier League fixtures against City, and they haven’t beaten City at Selhurst Park since 2015. Man City got back to their fluent best on Thursday morning and will be able to expose a Palace defence that has recorded only one clean sheet from their last nineteen games.

Brighton vs Arsenal

American Express Stadium, Sunday 7th April, 2:30am AEDT

Brighton and Arsenal face off in a crucial clash in Brighton on Sunday morning with the Gunners needing crucial points in the title race, against a Brighton side that showed plenty of promise early in the season. Arsenal picked up a 2-0 win over Luton Town on Thursday morning to temporarily move to the top of the table, with Liverpool playing on Friday morning. Brighton played out a frustrating scoreless draw against Brentford despite recording 25 shots to Brentford’s 6, and recording 68% possession.

Much has been made about Arsenal’s goal scoring spree in the calendar year of 2024, however what has arguably been more impressive is the work of their back four. In their 9-1-0 start to 2024, Arsenal have conceded only four goals and have recorded six clean sheets. Have been one of the best attacking teams in the league early in the season, although they’ve struggled of late, scoring only two goals from their last four games in the league.

Brighton are faltering down the stretch with just one win from their last five games and they couldn’t have hit a form slump at a worse time, coming up against the hottest team in the league. Arsenal are the number one attacking team (72 goals scored) and the number one ranked defensive side (24 goals conceded), and will stretch a Brighton side that is underperforming at both ends of the pitch. Arsenal will be too strong in this clash and continue to keep the pressure on Liverpool at the top of the table.

Manchester United vs Liverpool

Old Trafford, Monday 8th April, 12:30am AEST

England’s most iconic rivalry adds another chapter on Monday morning as Liverpool travels to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United. At the time of writing Liverpool haven’t played their Matchday 31 fixture against Sheffield United, where they should win and move back two points clear at the top of the table. Manchester United are also playing their Matchday 31 fixture on Friday morning, but there’s no major implications when it comes to the makeup of the table.

Liverpool took care of Brighton last weekend in a 2-1 victory, whilst Manchester United conceded a 99th minute equaliser against Brentford in what was once again a case of the Red Devils throwing away points against teams below them on the table. Even though United have won five of their last eight league games, their defence still remains an issue as they only record two clean sheets from those eight games. In that same eight game period Liverpool have scored 20 goals, and on the back of their attacking firepower, keep finding ways to win. Since December the Reds have a 12-3-1 record.

This rivalry has been one of the most one sided in English football, despite both clubs featuring in and around the top four. Since 2020, Liverpool have a 5-2-1 record in Premier League meetings against the Red Devils and their victories have come in dominant fashion. Their last three wins over United have been by score lines of 5-0, 4-0 and 7-1 as they’ve had absolutely no issues in running amuck against the United defence. With the title within their sights, expect a fired up Liverpool to continue their dominance over the Red Devils.
