Manchester City vs Liverpool

Manchester City and Liverpool will add another chapter to the best modern rivalry in English football, with a season defining clash to kick off Matchday 29. Arsenal won their game in hand to extend their lead at the top of the table to eight points, so if City fail to take all three points from the clash, the title race will be all but over. It’s a massive game for the Reds too, who need to win to keep their top four hopes alive.
Jurgen Klopp’s side were making a serious push, however a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth in their last game has seen them fall seven points behind fourth placed Tottenham. These two clubs have been the standout over the last five seasons, competing in thrilling title races, however both sides haven’t been at their best on a consistent level this season. City’s attacking game has kept themselves in the title race, scoring a league best 67 goals. The reigning champions have been led by a record-breaking season from Erling Haaland, who’s 28 goals see him comfortably leading the Golden Boot race.
City and Liverpool have been tough to split, with Pep Guardiola’s side holding a slight advantage in the head-to-head stakes, with a 2-3-1 in their last five games against Liverpool. City’s balance at both ends of the pitch looms as the key factor in this game, with City also ranking as the second-best defence in the league. Liverpool have vastly improved over the last two months; however, they have been incredibly vulnerable in defence this season. With their season on the line, expect a desperate performance from Manchester City at home.

Arsenal vs Leeds United

Arsenal headed into the international break with one hand on the title after taking an eight-point lead at the top of the Premier League table. The Gunners have a golden opportunity to maintain the gap when they host fourteenth placed Leeds, who will be looking to gain some breathing space in the relegation battle. Although Leeds are in fourteenth, they’re only two points clear of the relegation zone, and three points clear of the bottom of the league.
Mikel Arteta’s men come into this fixture on the back of six consecutive wins, with the proficiency in the front half being a highlight of their winning streak. The Gunners have scored nineteen goals across their last six games, scoring three or more goals in five of those six games. Coming up against Leeds who have conceded 46 goals this season, the fifth most goals in the Premier League, it looms as a major mismatch that Arsenal will exploit.
Arsenal have had the wood over Leeds, winning their last four games and this looms as a scary prospect for Leeds. The Gunners have been excellent at controlling possession this season, and it’s going to see them be able to dominate the territory. If the ball lives in Arsenal’s front half, things could get ugly for Leeds in this clash, and the Gunners will be far too good.

Newcastle vs Manchester United

St James’ Park plays host to a fixture with huge top four implications as Newcastle host Manchester United. The Red Devils are in third place while Newcastle are in fifth place, just three points behind Manchester United, with this clash being a genuine six point game. Newcastle have won their last two games, albeit against weak opposition in Wolverhampton and Nottingham Forest.
Manchester United are 3-2-1 across their last six games, however their last two games have dwindled confidence after an excellent run of form. A 7-0 defeat to Liverpool and a 0-0 draw against Southampton was a far from ideal way to go into the international break, and Erik Ten Haag’s side will be desperate to bounce back. Although Manchester United have the star power, Newcastle’s defensive system will be a key factor in this clash. Newcastle are the number one ranked defence in the Premier League this season, having conceded a league fewest 19 goals.
Newcastle have played in eleven draws this season, the second most in the Premier League, and their last two games against Manchester United have resulted in draws. With both sides not having played a Premier League fixture in over two weeks, it may be a struggle to find some continuity and flow in their game. Given the consequences of this fixture neither side will be looking to take big risks, and these factors lend perfect to a stalemate.

Both teams are in need of a win after recent poor results, and both will feel as though this is a winnable game. That usually results in an attacking game and that’s exactly what happened last time these teams met and the score finished up 2-2. The Both Teams to Score market stands out as value.

Crystal Palace and Leicester have both been in horrible form of late and have each picked up just one point from their last five games. Neither have been defending at the level required in the Premier League and with that in mind, I’m keen to play the Both Teams to Score market again in this one.

Nottingham vs Wolves (Sunday 1am AEDT)
After going through a purple patch in the middle of the season, Forest have struggled for results in recent weeks. They’ve had a tough schedule however, and will appreciate coming up against a lesser opponent in Wolves. I believe that Forest deserve to be the slight favourites at home and am happy to back them in here at a good price.

Chelsea vs Aston Villa (Sunday 2:30am AEST)
Chelsea’s performance has been a touch better in recent weeks but they still have a lot to improve on. They now face another tricky test against an Aston Villa side that’s only dropped two points from their last four matches. I expect Villa to at least score on Sunday morning, which makes the Both Teams to Score market good value.

West Ham vs Southampton (Sunday 11pm AEST)
The Hammers have had a campaign from hell but there have been some signs recently that they’re on the improve. They have a chance to go out of the relegation zone with a win against last-placed Southampton, and I expect them to be able to do just that on their home deck.

Everton vs Tottenham (Tuesday 5am AEST)
The Spurs would be disappointed that they were unable to come away with all three points against Southampton last start, but they can’t complain about their form over the past couple of months which has been great. They have a clear talent advantage over Everton and they should be winning this fixture despite being the travelling team.
