Cranbourne Cup 2023 Preview & Betting Tips

November 24th 2023, 10:34am, By: Brendan Bunworth

Cranbourne Racing Tips

The 2023 Cranbourne Cup highlights racing in Victoria on Saturday with the big race being the second last on the 10-race Cranbourne program at 5pm (AEDT).

The local, Foxy Cleopatra with Craig Williams on board, will be the likely favourite in the Cranbourne Cup with 11 horses contesting the race.

Decent weather is expected over the weekend and runners will be racing on a Good surface with the first kicking off at 12:10pm (AEDT).

Brendan Bunworth has picked out his best bets of the day with his Cranbourne racing tips below!

Cranbourne Racing Tips: Saturday, November 24th 2023

Race 1: Hertz Cranbourne Classic - 12:10pm (AEDT)

(1) Warmonger smashed them on Melbourne Cup Day really after he ran on very well in a slowly run race.  Damien Lane stays on but does have to carry an extra 3.5kg so we don't really want to take anything under even money. The Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr gelding has won both races on Good ground and from barrier 10 Lane will likely settle midfield on the outside before he takes off at the 600m.

(3) Unquestionably drops 4.5kg in weight and was an expensive purchase so owners will want a Victorian win after the gelding won at Gosford last start by a nose. He will likely settle just in front of Warmonger in the run.

(6) Desert Anthem drops 4kg in weight and has won on a Dry track previously.

(2) Sentimental Flame was a beaten fav at Morphettville last start (3rd) and may want a Softer track.

(1) Warmonger

$2.10 (3 units)

Race 3: Rosemont Stud Fillies & Mares Pendant - 1:10pm (AEDT)

(4) Kazou for Waller and Lane settled on speed when scoring at Randwick last start and from barrier 5 similar tactics will be used here one would think. She is second up and has won when second up before and she did win her only race on the Dry.

(1) Revolutionary Miss had no luck when 3rd at Flemington last start and that race was stronger than this so she should run top 3.

(5) Healing Oasis drops 2.5kg in weight for this and did bartle on well for 3rd at Randwick last start. Poor form on Dry tracks is concerning.

(6) Climbing Star was tipped on this site last start and was poor when 5th at Flemington.

(4) Kazou

$1.85 (4 units)

Race 6: Red Cranes & Haulage Handicap - 3pm (AEDT)

(11) Free Willed resumes of a pretty good Cranbourne jumpout (2nd) in readiness for this race. She may want some rain and there is some forecast in the area on Saturday morning. She has won over this distance before and her last run before her spell was unlucky when 4th at Hillisde but beaten under a length. Gets the inside draw here and should position up 3rd or 4th behind the leader in the run.

(7) Zamborghini has a wide draw in 14 which doesn’t help his winning chances but he did win for Beau Mertens last start and Mornington and he stays on top.

(6) Is It Me was unlucky last start when 5th with Ollie on and this time has barrier 13 which isn’t going to help in the luck stakes. He was 2nd behind Skybird 2 starts back and we know Skybird went on to win over the Spring Carnival at The Valley.

(2) Miss Middle Park gets an extra 5kg here which is a worry but this is easier than when she ran 7th at Caulfield in the Alinghi Stakes.

(11) Free Willed E/W

$4.80/1.95 (1u/2u)

Race 9: Ladbrokes Cranbourne Cup - 5pm (AEDT)

(7) Lord Vladivostok I have picked in his last couple of runs and despite running poorly at Flemington on Cup Day (unplaced) the 1800m seemed to be too far for him. He drops back to 1600m, a distance  he has won on 3 occasions from 13 tries. He has been freshened up a bit after having 2 runs in 4 days at Flemington and the likely Good track should suit.

(6) Umgawa is another horse that has been knocking on the door for quite a while. He has only won 4 from 29 starts but is very consistent and rarely gets beaten too far. Another who is very fit.

(3) Here to Shock led when just getting run down at Hillside on October 1 and then settled midfield when 13th after that. Last start went forward again for a 4th. Has raced in tougher races than this.

(1) Ascension has drawn 11 and may use too much petrol getting over because he will settle handy. Drops 4.5kg from the Seymour Cup though.

(7) Lord Vladivostok E/W

$16/4.20 (1 unit)
