Champions League 2021-22: Round of 16 Betting Tips

March 7th 2022, 4:23pm, By: Ben Talintyre

Champions League Matchday 8 Betting Tips

The UEFA Champions League continues this Wednesday and Thursday morning, with the second leg of Round of 16 matches getting underway. Both Manchester City and Liverpool are likely to progress from here but Bayern find themselves in a precarious situation against RB Salzburg and PSG and Real Madrid looks set to go down to the wire. We take a look at this week’s second leg matches below.

Remember, the EPL, Champions League and A-League are in full swing to be sure to head to our Soccer Tips page for regular updates and betting tips.

Champions League Round of 16 Betting Tips

Bayern Munich vs. RB Salzburg

After holding the German heavyweights to a 1-1 draw back in Austria, the visitors will head into the second leg with ambitions of causing a major boilover.

Salzburg led for the majority of the first leg clash, with only a late Kingsley Coman equaliser saving the German powerhouses blushes.

In the league, Bayern have been a force to be reckoned with of late but the same can be said for the Austrian side, who are unbeaten in their last seven.

Ultimately, you’d be a brave man to bet against the German champions here. I enjoy watching Salzburg but I expect Bayern to come out guns blazing and this contest will be over by half time. Therefore, I am backing Bayern half/full double.

Liverpool FC vs Inter Milan

Boasting a nice 2-0 advantage from the first leg, Liverpool will welcome Inter Milan to Anfield for the second leg on Wednesday morning.

Liverpool are the in-form team of the Premier League and I struggle to see them not progressing here.

Inter should be full of confidence despite the 2-0 loss to the Reds as they were far from outplayed. They also come into this match on the back of thumping Salernitana 5-0.

However, having already placed the EFL Cup in their full trophy cabinet and progressing through to the quarter-finals of the FA Cup, Liverpool’s dream of the quadruple dream is still alive.

Despite both sides being known for their attacking football, I am expecting a tight contest, especially early. Liverpool will be out to make sure that they protect their goal at all costs early and then look to counter Inter as the away side get more desperate. I therefore believe the best bet is to back under 1.5 goals in the first half.

Real Madrid vs PSG

PSG largely dominated the first leg against Real Madrid but a piece of Kylian Mbappe solo brilliance in the 94th minute sends PSG into the second leg one goal to the good.

Real Madrid sit top of the lot in La Liga and their 4-1 win against Real Sociedad will give them confidence ahead of their second leg clash against PSG.

The major plus for Madrid is they are playing in front of their home fans but they are going to have to play a lot better than they have been to take out the French champions.

PSG have too much offensive fire power and considering Real now have to outscore PSG, I don’t like their chances.

PSG progress through, with a win, that may even get ugly late.

Manchester City vs Sporting Lisbon

I am going to keep this short as I don’t like this as a betting game at all.

Manchester City demolished Sporting 5-0 in the first leg which makes this second leg match one that they will try to coast through without injuries.

For that reason, this is not a game to touch from a betting perspective as how Manchester City will line up is a massive query.

The $1.10 about for Manchester City in the early market is ridiculous considering the team they might play but with that being said, Sporting’s focus will now have completely turned to their league and they have a game just five days later, so they may also choose to rest players.

I wouldn’t bet on this game with someone else’s money.
