Canterbury, Geelong & Doomben Racing Tips for August 17th

August 16th 2016, 3:36pm, By: admin

We are offering more midweek horse racing betting tips in the leadup to the 2016 Sping Carnival. This week we turn our attention to Canterbury, Geelong and Doomben and offer our best betting tips and some roughies for races this Wednesday, August 17th.

Canterbury Racing Tips

Best Bet - Race 1: #4 Gretna

First-up for Chris Waller and gun jockey Brenton Avdulla. She showed plenty of ability in her first preparation. A recent trial prior to this run suggests she has only improved from that. She'll get the right run sucking on the leaders back and should prove too classy when they straighten.

Next Best - Race 6: #8 Crafty Cop

Smart young colt this bloke who's yet to show his best. He had limited luck but still ran very well first-up at Caulfield in a better race than this. A positive ride will be needed from Tommy Berry in Gate 10 but the current odds of $5+ are too hard to ignore for a runner who has a class advantage over most of these.

Geelong Racing Tips

Best Bet - Race 8: #2 Ability

This bloke has ability! Stable knows it as well as he was very well supported at Caulfield a few months back when he was a good thing beaten in a much harder race than this. Looks to be very well placed here for an easy kill so he can progress through the grades a bit. He'll race handy (first six) and be too classy in the straight.

Best Roughie - Race 4: #1 Ballinaclash

One of few runners today that should enjoy a dryish track and hopefully returns to his old racing style of leading or pressing forward. Last start in a decent race at Flemington he went back from a wide gate. Think today he presses on and is hard to beat at good odds.

Doomben Racing Tips

Best Bet - Race 7: #3 Dylan's Luck

Really like this bloke tomorrow. He has ran very well in Saturday level races and drops back to midweek class here and gets a predictably soft field. The drop back to 1100m poses no issues and a positive ride from Rebecca Williams in Gate 7 should see him feature in the finish.

Best Roughie - Race 8: #3 Secret Code

Interesting runner as he's only had the eight starts and he's a six year-old gelding. The thing we like about him is that he races on speed and makes his own luck. Now third run into the preparation he is nearing peak fitness and a peak run is coming. The race is winnable and he looks a nice each-way bet.
